Malaney is sarcastic, dry humored, & less likely to start something. Perhaps it was her parents' no none-sense upbringing that taught her to finish whatever she may start. She knows the story about her own birth fairly well. Blah, blah, was supposed to be a boy, blah, blah, kept the name, but shortened it in every day use for a girl.... Boring stuff really. Not to mention, she likes her name. Malaney never saw herself ending up where she has. Xygoroth is a tough market for Ryones in many ways, but in her line of work it's like walking with a bulls eye tapped to her forehead all day every day. Which, of course, being 36, she looooves when people tell her she's too old. Ti sometimes steps in to tell the story of her most recent win, but Lane likes to knock them down a few pegs with only a few words rather than go to that length. She's not arrogant, but she has a job to do. There's no shame in admitting you're paid best to win.

Lane was falsely accused of killing a Xynthii off world, & even did time in prison for it. Rergardless of being released due to new evidence later, & essentially swapping places with the woman who did it.... She'd lost everything. The best years of her life, her fiance, one of her parents, her friends... Not to mention her job or any credability. But grieving could only get her so far. Sure, there were dark days that tempted her to follow her father to the great beyond, but somehow she found herself at a gym with an older woman just as bitter as she. Titanium got her a job based on her speed & apparently her stance she'd had to pick up behind bars. Malaney's office duties seem so far away that they had to belong in someone else's life. She was mediocre at best back then. Now she knows her job, knows the rules, & gets paid accordingly.
