his orphaned egg was found by a priest, and happened to perfectly fill a prophecy for being a reborn god

was raised to believe he was a god in mortal form, and for much of his life before he hit adulthood, he believed this

eventually, though, he realized he did not have the power to do anything, but at this point it was too late

incredibly disillusioned with his life, but between relying on offerings to get by (as he can't exactly just head to the market) and not wanting to let everyone down, he keeps up the act

though he himself is an atheist, he thinks the idea of a god who can control life is comforting (another reason he keeps up the lie)
