In the earliest years of Eitor, humans and dragons were enemies. Ruling over the dragon side was an incredibly tall (150ft), yet skinny and scrawny green dragon wearing a comically large crown that didn't fit it at all and covered its eyes, only not falling off due to it leaning on the dragons long snout. Despite its pathetic and underwhelming build, this dragon was the earliest royal. With a roar so regal, all dragons couldn't help but to kneel before their ruler and obey his commands as they battled against the humans. This, was the king/queen of all dragons.
Eventually, the dragon had made peace with humans due to the wars starting to massacre bystanders, and ever since then the two species have been allies. It is said that one day, the first royal vanished in the center of Eitor. In reality it was just Eavesworth taking the dragon down, leaving nothing but its crown. Its royal magic spread throughout the land, though, enabling others to become royals, kickstarting monarchy.
A ceremony spell was eventually created by a powerful entity that enables the worthy to become royals. It's believed that the gods decide who is worthy, but in reality it's the spirit of the first royal that decides.
