Story
Oak is one of the few mudwings living who remembers war. Real, actual war. Before it he was young and full of hope. Opportunity and adulthood was stripped away as he was required by the Queen's orders to train, fight, and die on a battlefield for the next 20 years. 20 years of roaring, bloodshed, of fire and frostbreath. 20 years of watching all his siblings die off, murdered by dragons as brave and as stupid as him. 20 years came and when the war was over, Oak felt like he had aged centuries. No longer youthful and full of hope. Instead he was damaged, bitter, and left with an empty heart. Oak dragged his tail to some quiet corner of the Mud Kingdom and decided to live the rest of his days as a hermit. He didn't want help, he didn't want company, he didn't want medals of honor or bravery, he just wanted to be alone.

As the rest of Pyrrhia began to recover, Oak remained stubborn and bitter, snapping at anyone who offered to help him. He buried himself in his own anger and agony until it nearly killed him. With his poorly-healed injuries and lame tail, it became hard for Oak to hunt and sustain himself. In desperation he returned to the Mud Kingdom for help, and realized that the dragons here struggling to rebuild and heal were just as lost and alone as he was. An old, lumbering giant like him was no different from the skinny dragonets begging for scrap, scared and without family to depend on.

While getting back on his feet, Oak found professional help and a new mindset. In a stretch of land near the coast, Oak established a home for dragonets and others who needed somewhere to stay. He modeled it after Jade Mountain Academy, with less structure. "Students" could come and go as they pleased, and in exchange for assistance hunting and working on the land, he would teach them various things. History, how to read and write, manners, and encouraging them to hunt and fly. At first he only accepted Mudwing dragonets, but as the years passed and he learned to accept other tribes, he took in any dragonet who needed a home.

Oak had four siblings. Three sisters - Spruce, Birch, Acacia - and a brother, Mangrove. Over the years he's had multiple partners and clutches, but he doesn't know what became of the eggs. He's the father of Bayou, Snapper, Anhinga, Pike, Newt, Bullhead, Dogwood, and Russet, among others.
