Cardinal is a kid on the run, currently being cared for by Sawyer. Sawyer was the one to bust him out of the circus and never intended to leave the kid by himself. It took Cardinal some time to get used to his new life, but he's quite happy to be free now and it's apparent in how he interacts with others.
