Aika Chibana

Aika is a 20 year old college student. She lives with her grandmother in an estate passed down from generation to generation on a small village island that is usually only busy during tourist season. She and her grandmother take care of the local shrine, despite it not having traffic for most parts of the year.

Her parents both passed away at different times in her life and she has grown up living with her grandmother since she was a young child. Her and her grandmother can both see Yokai. She was given the bell she wears in her hair to signal the presence of strong Yokai in the area. It is used as a safety measure and she can only hear the chime of the bell when a yokai has approached. She has the ability to channel magic through her singing and often will sing folksongs to weak yokai to help regain their strength.

As Aika has grown older and her grandmother more frail, she has been put in charge of tending to the shrine, however, as she is a college student during the day, she has to tend to these chores at night. She often brings along Yagami-san, a lantern Yokai that had once been a human, to light the way to the shrine in the night.
