Luuly is a filial child who does her best and works hard so she could provide for her parents. She puts off what she wants and makes sure that her parents have a good life. She stands her ground and fights back if the situation calls for it, but backs down if that is the best thing to do. She hates being pushed around and although she is still scared in certain situations, she will find the courage to defend herself.

Backstory

Luuly is first generation Vietnamese-American. Her parents don’t speak a lot of English and run a nail salon parlor in SF, where they have to work 7 days a week and open even through the holidays. Because the shop is in a working-class area, her parents can’t afford to raise the price or else they would lose customers. They can’t afford to take breaks and practically live at the shop. The only thing they don’t do is sleep there. They do employ other people, but there is also a limit to how many people they can afford to pay.

Luuly was often babysat by her aunt. Her mom didn’t want her to be at the shop because of the toxic fumes from the nail polish, but some days she had to be there since her aunt was busy. She liked having her nails done and feeling like a princess though.

When she reached high school, she got accepted to a private school due to her good grades and had a scholarship that covered tuition. When she got there, she stood out and the rich kids would scoff at her. She wanted to go back to normal school, but this was a chance that most people didn’t get. Her parents were proud that she got accepted into an elite school and she didn’t want to disappoint them, especially since they worked so hard day and night.

Whenever things got tough, she would always remind herself that her parents have faced things even harder and that would be enough for her to get through anything. Later on, she learned that when she was about 3 years old, her parents’ shop got robbed and her mom got sliced in the face. That explained a lot about the bits and pieces she remembered from her childhood about why her dad picked her up from preschool that day instead of her mom, and why her mom became meeker. Learning that solidified her desire to be successful so her parents wouldn’t have to suffer anymore.

She worked hard through private school, despite being scoffed at by all the rich kids. She detested them for their money and a lot of them had ugly personalities. The only friend she had in the school was Candice, who was also her roommate. Candice also came from a working class family and was attending the school on scholarship, so the two got along really well. They understood each other and even poked fun at the rich kids.

During school breaks, she would go home and help her parents with housework. As much as she would’ve liked to work, she could only work during the summer break. During the short breaks, she would stay home and make sure her parents had a nice dinner to come home to.

As for hobbies, she loves to do fashion illustration and wants to be a designer one day, but due to her financial situation, she is aiming for a job that pays well. She is hoping that once her parents are comfortable, she would finally be able to pursue what she wants.

She did her best to stay out of trouble at school. Never in her life would she have thought that she would get tangled with ‘the super duper hot, but also a super duper asshole’ Vanrus Song. With 6 months until graduation, she now needs to keep him at bay and make sure that she doesn’t upset him more than she already has :’)

Luuly's only friend at the school and also her roommate. They have similar backgrounds and get along really well. They're open with each other and complain about things that go on.
