When a full moon emerges in the small province of Elkfeld, people say it is time for the månedrikker to feast. The creature only comes out during the night. When it leaps out from where it slumbered for two weeks, it drags the howling winds along with it where it shakes the trees wild and shudders the rooftiles of homes. The ravenous beast has only one thing on its mind: to chase down the moon and drink the moonlight off of its basin.

Every night, the månedrikker sips more and more at the moon, waning it until all of its light is depleted and it becomes a new moon. The beast satiated and with a belly full, runs back to its den to sleep and allow the moon to regain its light once more. The cycle of feasting and then slumbering continues for every month.

It is believed that the månedrikker holds great power, symbolizing the ability to conceal or reveal truths. Whenever it drinks, it would hide the moon from the sky. On the other hand, it also allows the moon to reveal itself once more, as the truth always has the ability to come out. People who believe in the månedrikker pray to it for their own benefit, whether it is to hide a secret away, or to learn of secrets hidden. Some believe they have to find the månedrikker's den and bestow it a gift for it to bless them with its power. Others believe that drinking from the moon's reflection will give them similar powers. Some even believe that all the wolves are the descendants of the månedrikker, and they hold its power now. Of course, there are those who believe it is only a fairy tale and brush away any mention of it. Nonetheless, the månedrikker has made itself an icon in Elkfeld, and every cycle of the moon there are always truths and secrets being made.

The månedrikker is never known to go out during the sunlight, and its powers seem to wane during the daytime. It is said that the sunlight is too strong for it and will burn its body, thus the beast hides away from the sun. For those who want to counter those who have used the power of the månedrikker, it is said to instead use the power of the sun, such as rituals involving mirrors with the sun's reflection or the use of fire.
