〈A DEAD GIRL AND HER DEAD COMPANION 〉
“clumsy and always sputes several barrages of apologies, li hua is a ghost of her former self; a small girl living in a shared house of two families in a village. she only had her grandparents as her guardians and was very smitten with her cheeriness and boundless energy that causes her several accidents.
she loved animals and often went to the forest without any guidance to feed animals mixed berries and other things she brought from home. her frequent friend was a boar four times her size and warmed up to her after chasing li hua several times for territory and she left her feed behind. despite it's size, li hua would always approach it despite him being bothered with her presence with a small bag of feed. she kept her distance at first and gradually inched closer as much as the boar was comfortable until she was able to reach his fur and grew comfortable to her. she called him gongzhu for her lack of creativity for another name.
li hua's death was in the woods when several children teased her for visiting it so often to see a boar calling her the "boar's child". many clustered around her till they were near a river and pushed her in as a joke. they left in a hurry when she couldn't swim and cried for help; only gongzhu hearing her and rushed to the river. he wasn't able to save her and only left her body at the edge of the village so they would find her. her grandparents buried her at the heart of the woods where she was able to live under the trees as much as she wanted to when she was alive; gongzhu took notice and took his own position as a guardian to her grave to protect her from wanderers.
gongzhu's remaining life was spent not allowing people to come near li hua's grave. due to several complaints and commotions, a hunter was sent to kill gongzhu and died near her grave. his bones are embedded in the dirt near li hua's grave.
both li hua and gongzhu now wander the woods and lead the lost out, and spite the people who come in and do dirty deeds.”
