Want to be pinged for Insect Generator updates? Let me know!

Heya, guys!

So, I'm a picky nerd who loves me a good generator. I wasn't satisfied with existing animal generators, most of them being very non-specific (i.e., "parrot", "bat", "mouse"...boring!), and so I figured I'd create my own! After garnering an initial list of animals, I decided to take it a step further -- let's add occupations, personality traits, nationalities, and a bunch more to make a more extensive generator for creating a basis for interesting characters!

I've compiled what I believe to be the most extensive anthro/animal generators on the internet. We're talking every mammal, bird, fish, reptile, and amphibian on Earth, 5MB of text, takes like a full minute to scroll through the source code at top speed! Countless personality traits, original attributes, body types, and so, so much more await in this puppy.

Usage tips are under the spoiler. It's recommended that you read these but not required!

 Tips and Notes:

   - It takes a moment to load the webpage since its contents are so large. After the initial loading it should generate pretty quickly. May not work on especially old computers or bad internet connections, but I haven't tested this.

   - Please excuse the paragraphs sometimes present after species names. This is a weird quirk the website I got the list from had, and it would take a million years to get rid of all of them, haha.

   - The numbers after personality/theme outputs are another vestigial element of the places I got the lists from, they don't mean anything.

  - There are a lot of birds. There are even more fish.

  -  Anthro generator contains only a small sampling of insects/arachnids. The insect generator has got you covered if you need more.

  - The insect generator will eventually be expanded to include arachnids and maybe other arthropods, but for now its focus is on insects.

Important Notes Regarding Insect Gen.:

Because there are so many insects, monotypic genera, cryptic species, etc., I have a specific method to making sure you're mostly able to actually find the species listed.

If a genus does not have a dedicated Wikipedia page, it will be listed in its entirety* (i.e., "Bombus sp."). Googling the genus should get you at least species, or multiple to choose from if you're lucky. Because the time necessary to research every genus individually would be absurd, I can't guarantee this will always work, but it should be decently effective in theory!

If a genus is only composed of a handful of species (usually around 2-8), all species will be added*. This does mean that obscure species may occasionally pop up that you're completely unable to find reference of. However, because the genera are so small, this will hopefully be mostly avoidable.

If a genus is mostly composed of species with dedicated Wikipedia pages, only those with either listed common names or pages of their own will be added. If the page is incredibly minimal (esp if the other species' pages are more extensive) they may be considered nonexistent for the sake of efficiency.

If a genus is mostly composed of species without dedicated pages, only the species with pages and/or common names will be added.

Monotypic genera (a genus with only one species in it) will always be added.

The golden rule here is that I want each genus/family to have proper representation. This is pretty case-by-case and sort of intuitive, but hopefully my judgement is actually halfway decent, bahaha

* These rules are often disregarded within families that don't show a lot of diversity (like fleas, house flies and lice). In these cases, only a few species per family are added, typically.

Feel free to use however you want. Mix and match aspects, ignore parts, add parts, whatever. Please, enjoy! I hope you find this as inspiring and helpful as I have in such a short time.

If you have any questions or suggestions, lemme know!

This wouldn't have been possible without thewebsiteofeverything.com/ , Wikipedia, and countless other sources that I ruefully didn't record. All credit goes to them, I simply compiled everything together to inspire myself and fellow artists. <3
