He is the current protector of the sea and all beings that live within it. He obtained his 'job' after he, whilst still being a living being, got drowned and tortured by some teenagers, this also made him hate most human beings.

Being a protector of an important scope he got himself classified as a god, a mythical creature or even a thing that is to worship for good luck in the fishing seasons, he very much dislikes this as he constantly gets harassed by people who either want to kill or worship him.

He also was who made Lure in the half abomination he is, saving him from being cooked by some... unconventional means, that being transforming the head of one of the chefs into Lure, switching their places. Of course, Lure has to pay a monthly debt to him to remain alive, even if Valentine doesn't really care, so he just accepts whatever Lure gives him, may it be food, money he can't even use, stickers, he will accept everything.
