They just sort of exist and sometimes show up in front of you all unexpected when you are lost in the woods?? They give you a little bit of bad luck, play some mind games and then you forget this occurrence ever took place until you get back home and you notice your coat is missing a few buttons and you can't stop speaking in rhyme. :O
