Jem

Airam's second-hand man, who is helping him enact revenge on his sire. A long time ago, he and Airam were hunting for food; however, Jem was lost in thought, as he had come to realize that he had fallen deeply in love with his companion. Suddenly, a rustling in the bushes interrupted his inattentiveness, and he looked up to see a starved vampire woman who's crazed eyes were trained on him. Before he could react, Airam leapt to protect him and ended up being the monster's food instead. As they fought, Jem found that he was paralyzed with fear and couldn't train his bow on the monster trying to devour his friend. He was afraid and torn between self-preservation and the desire to save Airam. It was only when the being had left that he ran to help Airam, but by then it was too late. Try as he might, there was nowhere close to enough blood in his body to keep him alive. His ears rang with panic and despair, so much so that he couldn't hear what Airam had said to him then. There was no way that this wasn't his fault; he was too caught up in his feelings to do anything to help his friend. He swore to himself that he would never let his emotions control him again, and the moment he did so...Airam woke up. Jem's relief was cut short- before he could even utter his name, Airam was upon him, recognizing Jem not as a companion, but as his meal. But Airam, being a fledgling, was sloppy, and ran off to find his next victim before he had even gotten his fill. And so Jem lay there, knowing that should the two ever meet again, he must protect Airam, better than he had today...even if that meant hiding some things from him.
