Once, Laramie Harper was infamous. He still technically is--but his hellish notoriety is attached to a different identity, one he's hidden deep beneath the surface. Once and always a sorcerer wielding the darkest of arts, he's used his abilities to transform himself wholly, wearing a new face and new name as he conceals the scars of his pursuers and hides in plain sight from the consequences of his crimes. Summoning is widely considered the most dubious of magic, as the power to call upon anything of real strength requires more energy than a single human can safely provide. This is, unfortunately, circumvented by sacrificing others, something Harper has no reservations about doing for the sake of his rituals. Naturally, that's a crime, and it's one he's got dozens of counts of--and that's just the proven ones. Having fled his ghastly lair after being attacked by a powerful wizard, Harper now lives out his days in the safety of his little cottage, attended by his summoner's familiar Dysmas as he does his best to evade the law. Nowadays he's got work as a teacher, playing the part of the hapless historian at a boarding school for elite young magicians. It's a little tiresome to put on the cheery face and open arms of his kindly persona, so far removed from anything he'd prefer, but it's nothing in the face of the torment hovering there .... the child of the very wizard who flushed him from his home is in his classes, and oh, if he could only wring that whelp's neck ....
