Overview
Sugimori is a private investigator interested in the case of Miyako thanks to Kiyoshi’s worries about her. Knowing some amount of onmyōdō and psychic powers, he becomes interested in finding Yato’s plans and stopping him.
Backstory
Sugimori was born and raised in Tokyo as an only child. He was always interested in folktales and ghost stories and wondered if there was any truth to them, creating his interest in the supernatural and paranormal.
He attended university in Kyoto to specifically study the practice of onmyōdō and learn the history of Abe no Seimei. Surprisingly he met Kiyoshi, who was a practicing onmyōji and possible descendant of Abe no Seimei himself. Feeling it was fate, they became fast friends.
Through Kiyoshi, he also began to learn onmyōdō and develop his psychic abilities.
At his graduation, he received a loan from his father to start his own private investigation service in Tokyo. He invited Kiyoshi to join him and they both immediately moved to Tokyo together.
Presently, he became interested in Miyako’s case and the mysterious Yato through Kiyoshi.
Abilities
Sugimori has some understanding of onmyōdō and has developed some special abilities.
Sensing Energy - Sugimori keeps a compass and a pocket watch on hand that he uses as tools to sense and locate power and energy given off by supernatural forces. His compass broke once when he unknowingly bumped into Yato. He also uses this ability on the job to search houses and areas that are suspected of being haunted.
Personality
Sugimori is best described as a “hard-boiled detective” interested in only finding the truth. But really, he is kind and understanding in his own way, often giving people second chances and lowering the cost of his services.
Other Assorted Facts
Kyuusaku is not his real given name, but rather one he gave himself for his private investigation identity.
Despite being bisexual, he’s had no previous relationships or interest in them before Kiyoshi. Admittedly, he only began developing a romantic interest with Kiyoshi upon living with him.
