There's an old legend among the locals, now only spoken by elder tongues, of a ghost in the wood. A maiden that wandered the forest, they say, gentle and mysterious, always just out of reach... a nymph, they thought, bound to protect the trees. She stepped as lightly as a doe, stalked as softly as a fox, sang as sweetly as a bird… and vanished as quickly as a mouse. Something about her, though, no matter where she walked, brought wanderers peace. She was their fair lady of the land; when a lost traveler found their way, when a tired hunter found their quarry, or when spring bloomed ever-bright, they knew it was she who had blessed them.

In the time of dying lands and bitter townsfolk, the nymph of Wildegate is all but forgotten. She is a children's tale, they'll say, or the ramblings of an old man who's had one too many. No fey guard their woods, nor have they ever. Besides, they'll add, whoever claims to have seen her but slipping minds of the elders, swearing by a faint memory of their youth?

As life withers around Wildegate, Rue fears for the fate of the nymph. It is no coincidence, she believes, that sightings of their fey protector would vanish just as their land began to fade. There is a sadness she feels, walking the trees, and it is not all her own; it cuts too deep. Little could drive a nymph from their forest... Why, then, would this one vanish? Rue fears uncovering the answer.
