About
Personality
balanced . strict . perceptive . rational

To most, Yu presents a fairly cold exterior. She's seemingly emotionless aside from the brief and few moments of strict remarks which can sometimes cause her to come across as mean. Yu forces herself to not be very expressive in order to keep herself rational and calm under the immense stress of the Death Game. She feels that she has a responsibility to stay grounded as a leader of sorts amidst the difficulties of the trials and events, especially in front of the others involved. So, to prevent herself from letting her emotions get the best of her she steels herself with a cold, almost detached mindset and personality. It's not that she wants to be abrasive or strict, she's just trying to look out for everyone as best as she can and she does this by blocking out her emotions to prevent them from overwhelming her. Keeping a mindset like that is definitely really exhausting for her though, and she does have her limits. There would be no doubt that being like that would take its toll and she'd find herself hiding away in her room to sort out the full impact of her bottled up emotions as events go on in the game. Outside of the game- in a normal setting- Yu is fairly warm and is more willing to be expressive!.

Story

Prior to the Death Game, Yu grew up in a large family. She had good relations with her siblings and parents, and being the oldest, she did her best to care them all as best as she could when finances were short. Playing outside constantly, she discovered that she had a knack for roller-skating and took to it. She practiced constantly, learning a multitude of tricks and routines, and took to entering competitions and soon made it to bigger leagues. She won many trophies and found an opportunity to compete in an international competition that would give her a hefty winning prize and a brand deal the likes of which would help her family to move to a nicer area, fund college expenses for her siblings, and live comfortably. At this point she had banked so much of her efforts in time into advancing to get to this point, so the outcome of the international competition would be an all - or - nothing - once - in - a - lifetime opportunity. In the final round, she would rival another competitor. The rival knew that Yu's talent far surpassed hers, so she sabotaged Yu's skates which caused a terrible accident mid-routine. Losing the competition, the prize, and the immense medical expenses that came with her injury destroyed her dream and ambition. She swore to never skate again, and once she had recovered she had took to taking on multiple part-time jobs instead to help take care of her family. On the night of finishing the first day of a new fast-food job she was kidnapped as part of the Death Game. When she awoke, she found that she had been forced to wear roller skates which were locked on with a similar mechanism to the collars and was instructed that taking them off would result in her being executed. She was forced to solve a series of extremely simple puzzles, and upon succeeding she meets the rest of the participants. At some point she would have been clear to trade out her skates for normal shoes, but after finding out about the awful things that happend to the other participants- Kanna's sister, etc- she'll keep wearing them out of guilt for having an easy First Trial and it would later continue to serve as a reminder of guilt and a sense of determination that she had to keep going no matter how difficult things got. .

Relationships
Keiji Shinogi | Partner

Yumena had her doubts at first as to whether she should trust him or not, but after teaming up and working together often she began to understand him more and found a certain fondness for him and his lousy jokes. They form a fairly strong bond as partners in crime and she's definitely taken advantage of his strong-protecting-kinda arms for a well-needed hug when she's hit her limits. She also does her best to help him to keep calm and snap back reality when needed. There's a lot of trust between them, I think. She tries to keep optimistic and likes to joke about things they can do once they make it out of the game (similar to how Sara jokes about telling him to fix the dark circles under his eyes).

Gin Ibushi | Friend

Seeing Gin almost like another one of her many siblings, she full-heartedly embraces being called Big Sis Yu. She is less strict and cold when it comes to Gin, since she doesn't want him to be scared of her. She may even slip a nyan~ or wan~ at the end of her sentences for fun. They team up to investigate and clear attractions.

Although Kurumada comes off as abrasive in his own ways, Yu seemed to pick up on his secretive caring nature deep down. Maybe from putting up her own facade, she was able to notice his. Either way, she'd find herself caring for Kurumada as a friend and would be just as distraught when his time ran out + wishing that she could have met him under better circumstances.
