considering himself to be very empathetic, he is sensitive to the vibes and auras that others put off, and can sense when something is off. he is good at perceiving unspoken cues and subtle changes, such as body language or facial expression. he is seen as a bit mysterious at first because he always appears to be watching, but once you begin to speak with him, you see that he is actually very kind and compassionate. he can appear to be in a bad mood for no reason at all, simply because he absorbs the emotions from the environment around him, whether they be positive or negative ones. he believes that the way to inner peace is to give to others, and so he is often seen as very selfless or generous. 

born into the southern water tribe, his life was never easy per say, with the freezing snowstorms and dangerous avalanches that plagued their home frequently. he was expected to become a great warrior for their tribe, as his father was the head warrior, and panuk's three older brothers had all become warriors in his honor. but from a young age panuk was drawn to the more feminine art of using waterbending for healing, as his grandmother did. in his off time (in between trainings or after meals), the boy spent time with his grandmother, learning her skills. his brothers found out at various points over the years, but all promised to keep his secret from their father, knowing he would be furious. he was fourteen when his father found him at his grandmother's side early one morning, helping her heal a child that had fallen through the ice and hit their head. as punishment, he was forced to take his warrior test four years before his training would have been completed, and he failed it for that reason; his punishment was being cast out of the tribe. panuk traveled the world over the course of the years following, going to places where people were often sick or injured but unable to seek out or pay for a healer. his charitable healing caused him to follow a particularly bad-off patient onto the rlung temple, since it was the closest 'city' to take the man, and after learning about the temple, he realized it was the perfect place to truly settle down and make a home. a place that housed the refugees, the unfortunate, the needy; that was the place for him.
