Rafael Rojas

"Again, again! I'm so sick of everything being the exact same as before, of nothing ever getting better! Why can't things ever change?!"

Rafael "Raffi" Rojas is a scion of the magical Rojas clan, though he doesn't know it: he's a "lost pup", a member of the bloodlines that willingly distanced themselves from magical society following the disaster that led to magical society isolating themselves. Rafael's life has been regimented for as long as he can remember. It's what he hates the most about it. He was to follow in his parents' footsteps, and despite their dwindling wealth, to engage in the frivolous trappings of high society. They were strictly middle-class, but they took out endless debts to pretend they weren't. No one offered him a chance to be himself--he was expected to do what his elders told him, or else.

Perhaps that's why he's so extremely surly. Rafael seems to exist always in some state of constant anger, flying into rages far too quickly and being needlessly ornery. He loves to lead, and he is actually a good leader, but he really only wants to lead people who unerringly follow his orders. If they don't, he'll immediately have a flip-out. He actually isn't violently angry; rather he tends to just meltdown and retreat to be by himself where he'll just stew in anger until he gets too tired to do it. Anyone wishing to be his friend will have to dig through a lot of emotional baggage. 

Rafael loves outcomes he can't predict, as a result of his upbringing. Card games and dice fascinate him for this reason. Their randomness compels him. He has a quite massive collection of dice in all shapes and colors, and almost always carries a few on him. He likes any card game, and has sets for nearly any one you could think of. He doesn't like gambling, at least not gambling real money. Gambling with poker chips for fun is definitely up his alley, though. Being of Hispanic descent, he's also a big fan of marzipan and churros (the only food he can cook from scratch, provided he has the ingredients). In general he likes very spicy foods such as curries. 

Rafael knows that Lakefrost is the ancestral home of his clan, but his family derides the residents as quacks and deranged mystics. It's enough to leave him to eventually venture to the town himself just to learn for himself, and he is surprised by what he finds...but quickly asks to learn magic anyway. He's adept at fire magic, and the use of flamespitters (pistol-like flamethrowers), but he hasn't had any specific weapons made for himself.
