     His mother is married to an abusive man. But once she gives birth to luke, her outlook on life changes.
    She has to live for the both of them. Her dream to open a flower shop becomes a reality with hard work; with her son luke at her side.
    She is going through a divorce with her ex husband.
     Everything seems to be going well, she is finally happy, luke loves his mother and wants to protect her from his dad at a young age; this in turn got him hit/abused growing up.
    One night, someone breaks into the shop (they lived above it) and murders his mother, being a child he was too scared to help and runs to get help. Having no immediate family, luke has to live with his dad for a few months, while the cops investigate the murder. His father begins to spiral heavily into drinking and blames Luke being born for his mother's death, because life was better without Luke. Months later the cops find out it was indeed Luke's father who killed the mother out of insecurity and rage for her wanting to leave him. (felt he was losing control of her).
    Luke's father goes on the run from the cops; leaving behind luke to deal with loan-sharks because he gambled them into debt. He lives as a squatter; that occupies an uninhabited house which was his former house when his mother was still alive, it’s run down. (it has a window box with a small garden, the last thing he has from his mother. Tends to it which you can see his soft side)  
    Growing up in the streets is hard. Luke has to result into petty crimes for food and comfort items. This later entangled him with yoshiro (shiro). Being a teenager he really cares about fitting in, seeks and longs for a sense of family. His external goal is to survive on his own, and also fears not being loved or belonging.  Luke is very angst-ridden which makes him sarcastic and moody which gets him into fights. But once he feels comfortable or safe around someone, he can be quite playful. He is also a dreamer.
