Azel was a pretty by the book demon before meeting Floriano. He led people astray, terrorized anybody that looked at him the wrong way, and sinned liberally. After putting his heart and damned soul into corrupting Floriano he was stumped. Floriano became more holy than ever... Azel did manage to unintentionally rehabilitate Floriano physically. Instead of trying to turn the angel to the dark side he decided to let Floriano go... only to have him come back immediately. After that Azel's demon points dwindled as even small acts of kindness towards his new 'boyfriend' were penalized. Frustrated with his lack of freedom he more or less stashed his demon card in a junk drawer and does as he pleases.

When there is literally a stairway to heaven and a highway to hell earth becomes a very weird place. Demons and angels freely walk among humans trying to influence mortals for better or worse. Card carrying demons (literally, they have a card) try to rack up points with the Devil by corrupting humans. Angels don't get to see their tallies but in essence they act piously to gain brownie points with God. When demon Azel stumbles upon a frail angel he can't believe his luck! In an attempt to score big, Azel takes said angel hostage and tries to corrupt this wayward holy nerd. Unfortunately, he found the most genuinely pious angel of them all....
