Eithne [EN-YA]:

A woman from the time before immortals. Though born a commoner, she was born with a strange immunity to magic and was taken in by the royal family at a young age when her abilities became apparent. She trained as a knight while her peculiar abilities were studied by the royal mages.
Not only did she turn out to be immune to magic, she could also disperse the magic of others, making her a powerful asset to the royal family.
She gained fame and notoriety through the years, earning the title of "The black knight" or in the whispers at bars "The royal family's dog."

When the King commanded her to slay a god to try and gain immortality she hesitated on orders for the first time. Gods, being creatures of pure divinity and magic could in theory be dispersed by her abilities, but tampering with the natural order made her uncomfortable. After much persuading, and the threat of imprisonment she reluctantly agreed to slay the Goddess of death, Cathe.
Their plan backfired when after she was killed, they found out that Cathe was merely responsible for escorting the souls of the dead, and not the lifespans of others. The world was thrown into disorder as the souls of the fallen were left to toil on the battlefields and the blame for the disarray was blamed rightly on their kingdom. Wars broke out, and Eithne was once again occupied on the front lines. Even after the appearance of the Valkyrie and the souls being slowly brought to the afterlife, the sin of killing gods was too much for the neighbouring kingdoms to ignore.

During one battle Eithne was mortally wounded and sat awaiting her death in the aftermath of the battle. When she saw a Valkyrie nearby at work, and the two were surprised that they could see one another. Much to the surprise of the Valkyrie Eithne merely laughed, asking if she was next. When she was met with silence she figured she had nothing to lose, and asked to be spared just this once, and that next time they met she'd go without a struggle. She was even more surprised when the Valkyrie humoured her request, and told her that she would give her enough time for a healer to get to her.
When she woke next it was in the infirmary, and she was fairly sure she'd dreamt the interaction with the Valkyrie. While she was recovering from her wounds she spent more time around the castle, and started to hear questionable rumors about the King's new plans for her. Cathe hadn't been the answer to their end goal, but surely one of the other gods were. The King's delusions of grandeur had grown to the extreme, and his new plan was to use Eithne to wipe out the current gods so he and his ilk could rule as the new ones. Not wanting to be part of his ludicrous plan and spoil her second chance at life she ran away.

They spent many months trying to figure out how to get her back, and more importantly how to make her work for them. They needed her cooperation to use her abilities... or did they? In the past, powerful wizards had bid their essence be transferred to a weapon on their deathbeds, often granting the weapon their own abilities. It was risky, but if she wouldn't cooperate it may be their only option to try and see if the sword inherited her ability to disperse magic.

When she was finally captured and brought back to the palace, she refused to work for the king anymore, insisting she'd rather die. Unfortunately she got her wish, and when they proceeded with the ritual as planned. The king claimed she'd been killed on the battlefield and held a grand funeral for her while they waited to see if the sword would take on her abilities, or if they'd be without Eithne *and* her powers.

Laoise [LEE-SHA] :

When she gained consciousness she didn't know where she was. Everything was dark and cold, but she could hear people talking from... somewhere. She heard her name, Eithne, being mentioned and as her mind became more and more clear she figured out what had happened, and where she was. Despite being a disembodied spirit attached to a sword, she still felt like herself. More than anything she was angry... They'd killed her to use her against her will? Well she wouldn't stand for it... She was determined to let no hand touch her- her powers would not be abused. Not again.
From then on, any time someone tried to touch the sword they would be repelled by a strange ward. Many tried to remove the sword from the ritual site, but to no avail. Eventually they were forced to give up, deeming the sword a malfunctioning failure, and left her to rust. From then she blocked out the world once more and fell into a deep slumber. Centuries passed in silence, and the Kingdom she had once served had long since fallen.

She only lowered her ward when she heard voices approaching her once again. It seemed someoneĀ had heard about the sword made to repel magic, but there was no chance she'd yield to them... or so she thought. Her interest was piqued when she felt a familiar presence. When she heard the woman speak she realized it was the Valkyrie from all those years ago- the very one who'd given her a second chance. The same one she'd promised to go with next time they met without a fight. Well, she'd always been one to keep her promises... and she felt she had a personal debt to repay. When the woman picked up the blade, there was no barrier to repel her hand. Instead a voice echoed through her head and asked the name of her new master.

Halia.

When asked what her name was in response, she told Halia she had no name. Long gone were the days of being Eithne, the black knight. Instead, she would be known by the name Halia had chosen for her. Laoise.

As expected, she retained her abilities to disperse magic, but only on a minor scale at first. After working with Halia, they discovered that the more weapons she absorbed, the more power she gained. While once surrounded by darkness, she slowly gained the ability to not only see the outside world, but to project herself into it for extremely limited times. She grew to care deeply for Halia, never revealing that they had once met long ago.
It was Laoise's aide that allowed Halia to slay the god of the sun, and her who transferred his divinity to her instead of destroying it. She fought valiantly alongside Halia until the bitter end, when Halia and Moira tore each other apart, sending their souls into a seemingly endless loop through other worlds. Once again she sits and waits, sleeping and waiting patiently for Halia's return, so they can pick up where they left off.

The next time she wakes up is when she thinks she feels Halia's essence a hundred lifetimes later, only to discover that instead of it being her it's a young man named Niamh. She learns that he too was a Valkyrie, and that he too considered Halia dear to him at one point. She agrees to work with him, building her power until she can vaguely sense her prescence within the world, and leads Niamh to find her so they can finish what they began so long ago.
