Anise

"Here, eat this! It will make you vomit and cry a little but it'll help."

Anise is Salt's cousin.

Years ago, they accidentally witnessed Salt trap and kill an Akriri, and life hasn't been the same since.
All they wanted was to talk to someone about it, Anise was distressed. They didn't mean for it to cascade into the events that eventually saw Salt cast out from the village.
As the years passed, Anise's guilt only grew--until finally, they could no longer stand it. During one fateful evening, they packed their belongings and set off in search of their exiled cousin.

Anise is a bit of a do-gooder. Naive and a bit prissy, toeing the line of decency means putting themselves very far out of their comfort zone. It's a good thing they are as adept at magic as they are at keeping their nose clean. Life with Salt & company means that trouble is bound to find them despite their best efforts.

(It's worth noting that Anise is not their real name... It was lovingly bestowed upon them by Salt the very moment they reunited, without so much as an explanation why. Anise has accepted it as Salt's only way of punishing them)
