Catalina

First Princess of Sabris. Catalina is the eldest of the four Princesses of Sabris, though she is very meek. She enjoys the quieter life, delving into books and tending to a garden. However, her father pushes for her to change, reminding her that she is a Princess and must make herself a presentable bargaining chip. When she is passed over for marriage, and instead her two younger sisters are chosen first, Catalina is treated with even further contempt. She is offered to the Emperor along with her youngest sister, despite her father being sure she will fail. Instead, she is sent to spy on the progress of the new Emperor. If she can prove herself valuable to his sinister plans, perhaps he will find her worthwhile. Catalina is very much against the idea from the start, but her father persuades her with threats toward her beloved younger sister. Catalina submits, and begins her task. However, upon meeting and growing to trust the Emperor, Catalina confesses what she has done, choosing to be trialed for treason rather than to continue the betrayal of his trust and endangerment of his life. Throughout the competition, Catalina learns to view herself as more than her father's daughter. The Emperor is able to break her out of her escapism, and guide her through coping with her lifelong abuse. Though she is still very reserved, Catalina finds herself in love with the Emperor rather quickly.
