About

   STORY

What’s behind the mask? That is a question Musika always hears, but hates answering. An enigma to all but herself, Musika is the reticent alchemist of the Gitlayang forest. She lives in isolation, as interactions with other creatures are nothing but a hindrance to her pursuit of knowledge.

Born as a wizard-monster hybrid, Musika always had something covering her face to avoid being questioned about her looks. It isn’t unusual for the monsters of Nilangad to have intimidating features, but her visage frightens even the most horrifying creatures— an unexplainable, endless abyss.

Musika is a monster. Only a monster. She has the ability to use Poison Magic being half-wizard, but she refuses to acknowledge the aura and wizard blood that flows within her. It is not something she needs. Magic is not something she needs. She has always yearned for knowledge. For science. For her own destiny.

   PAST

Musika was named after her parents’ love for music and so, she was expected to continue the family tradition. Since a child, her parents insisted that she become who they wanted her to be, forcing their beliefs and lessons onto her every day.  Her parents treated her as if she were more like a doll than their own child, but she knew they did not mean anything wrong. She did not have any ill will towards them, nor any affection either. Despite Musika’s natural talent earning her parents’ praise, she never truly had any passion for music. Musika appreciates it, but not enough to make a career out of playing.

Once she was old enough to enter college, Musika convinced her parents to let her join a prestigious school far away from home under the guise of following in their footsteps. As she was always the top of her class throughout her school years, she naturally entered with a scholarship. Despite her papers saying she would be in the Music Production course, she changed it last minute to BS Chemistry.

As her parents were at the peak of their music careers, they had no time to visit Musika at all so they did not know of this change. They eventually learned of Musika’s deception, but by then it was too late. They were severely disappointed with her but they could not do anything about it as her decision was set in stone.

---

During her college years, Musika preferred to work alone. Whenever there was a group project, she would always insist on doing it solo and she was never the one to participate in events or group activities either. People would find it very odd and think she was a shy individual but this was far from the case.

Whenever people approach her and ask a question, she would often go straight to the point and answer bluntly. Musika simply has no time for idle chit-chat. She would much rather spend time memorizing each detail of the periodic table of elements than planning outings with friends. Knowledge of the sciences without the need for magic was everything to her.

To no one’s surprise, she graduated with honors from her college. Her professors and other members of the faculty admired her knowledge and expertise on anything chemistry related so they invited her to be a tutor or a teacher for high school students of a local school who needed help with the subject.

Musika was conflicted. She did not have any plans for the future other than to continue her pursuit of knowledge and this would also serve as an opportunity to earn money at the same time. But there was just a slight problem— she absolutely loathed kids and teenagers. She found them quite annoying and hard to manage academically. Musika initially hesitated but her professors insisted on taking this opportunity to share her knowledge and guide those who needed it.

And thus, she was officially employed as a high school chemistry teacher. Things were fine at first. She was a bit strict and boring as a teacher but at least she never went off-topic during discussions unlike previous teachers. The students of the different classes she handled took her well, but others either found the subject too hard to comprehend or have no interest in it entirely.

One thing she did not have was patience. She knew that there would be people who did not have the same level of passion for the sciences as her, but she hated having to repeat herself over and over to students who kept asking the same questions. It was a waste of her time. It was hard for her not to be rude to the students as per request of her fellow faculty members but she just did not have it in her to be understanding towards them. She was starting to get tired of it all, and what's worse is that she could not even have time to herself anymore because of all the papers she had to read and grade.

Musika had to leave. Leave without anyone knowing about her whereabouts. She started planning her escape and where to go while at the same time handling her responsibilities as a teacher. It took months of preparation, but she was finally able to do it.

On the day of her students' finals, Musika never showed up. Some wondered if she was sick or if she had an emergency. Her coworkers tried to contact her but there was no response. The students were overjoyed at the thought of them having to skip their chemistry finals until word came out that the exam papers were in her desk drawer with a note on top that said "Here are the exam papers and answer keys. Don't look for me".

While this was met with sheer disappointment and cries of anguish by some students who did not study for the exam, the rest of the school was filled with confusion and worry. Musika showed no signs of wanting to quit. She was quite good at her job but no one seemed to notice her growing frustration with having to deal with people, especially students. Her parting note at least reassured others that she would be fine on her own, though she would be missed by those who genuinely enjoyed her teaching methods.

Using the money from her previous paychecks, Musika bought and gathered all the essentials she needed and set off for the forest border between Gitlayang and Minglupa. She went deeper and deeper looking for a place to stay. Her new home started off as a small camp but she learned to adapt and eventually build her own cabin from whatever materials she found in the woods.

---

Nowadays, she hides within her cabin. Brewing whatever concoctions she can think of to aid her everyday life as she refuses to rely on the convenience of magic like the rest of the world. After all, everything she needs can be found nearby, so she never left the woods since the escape from her teaching job. The one exception to this is her use of magic to determine which cooking ingredients are edible or poisonous.

Stay away from the cabin in the woods, and the monster that lurks within. Don’t worry. Musika won’t hurt you, but please don’t be rude and leave her alone.

   EXTRA

  • She has no feet and instead hovers slightly to get to places. Her height can be measured from the top of her head to the bottom of her dress
    • In Nilangad, a wizard starts to lose their form the less they use their magic. This may be a factor as to why Musika has no lower half and face, though her monster half is what keeps her form in shape. That, and being a ghost creature in general.
  • The spikes at her back are her bones, and are completely optional. She can grow and retract them at will. However, every now and then she must shed these bones as they hurt her back if she continually lets them grow. She does this every few months and either uses them as part of her experiments or carves something out of them
    • Musika sometimes makes arrows out of these bones and coats the tips with poison, if anyone invades her area she will not hesitate to shoot them at the intruders
  • Musika's mask cracks and breaks every now and then but she has several spare ones she carves herself.
  • Despite not being fond of using her magic, she does use it occasionally to aid her while foraging for ingredients in the forest. A minor passive of her Poison Magic enables her to determine which plants are edible or not at a single glance.
  • Aside from practicing science and alchemy, she also enjoys cooking— "It is no different from mixing different chemicals", she says. Musika is surprisingly good at it too, she can cook up a whole feast for herself and saves the leftovers for the future.
  • Headcanon voice is Cherami Leigh (A2 from Nier:Automata, Rhea from Fire Emblem: Three Houses)
    • Musika can sing, though she prefers not to because it doesn't mean anything to her. Her singing voice sounds like this.
  • Motifs- Science, alchemy, skulls & bones, ghosts, poison
  • Her nickname Mumu, aside from it being a shorter version of her full name, is a play on multo, meaning ghost. Her last name Murete is also a play on muerte, meaning death.

KIKOannoying pest

"No matter what I do this creature keeps trespassing upon my home. I don't even know how he found me. Not even my traps can keep him away... tsk. Well, no matter. As long as he doesn't steal any of my items. He can get very irritating while I'm working, though."

The rascal who always seems to find a way to enter her home no matter how many times she kicks him out. Maybe she's starting to get used to his presence.

Carabelle Sorbetescollege dormmate

"Carabelle huh... sometimes when I'm alone I can still hear her loud laughter from across the room in my head. I wonder what's become of her now. I hope she achieved that dream of hers at least."

Musika and Carabelle were college dormmates, though not by choice. Carabelle was the first to occupy their dorm room but due to increasing room rates, she had to share the room with someone else. Luckily, Musika had just started college and needed a dorm to stay in and with no other room available, Musika had no choice but to share a room with Carabelle.

The two did not get along at first- mostly on Musika's part. Their personalities clashed too much and Musika hated how loud Carabelle would be, especially when calling with her friends. She would often consider Carabelle a disturbance to her studies, and this irritated Musika immensely. Carabelle sensed the animosity Musika had towards her, so she one day asked Musika how she felt about their living situation.

And so she did. Musika let out all her pent up frustration, and Carabelle took it all in. Carabelle apologized profusely for her behavior, and promised to be a better roommate towards Musika. Musika initially did not want to let it slide, but forgave her in the end because she could tell Carabelle was being sincere.

The two would soon have a better relationship afterwards. While not truly "best" or "close friends", they were at peace with each others' company. Carabelle would stay quiet while Musika would be studying, and Musika would do her work somewhere else when she knows Carabelle would be having a long conversation with someone on her phone.

Because Carabelle's college stay would be delayed for a year, the two graduated around the same time. They promised each other that they would keep in touch, but after Musika's disappearance from the public, Carabelle has been left to wonder what had happened to her old friend.
