Don't let her tell you otherwise- Trace only got into the agent business because she was the only one willing to approach the crazy old man in the sewer. She's earned her stripes, though, singlehandedly rescuing the great Zapfish, destroying the Octobot King, and getting her thunder stolen in the Deepsea Metro. So it's okay if she's a little weird. Who in this stupid squad isn't?
Personality
Trace's one goal in life is to convince you she is really cool. Because she is. She is cool. She's cool and aloof and very serious and stone-cold- what, you don't believe her?
Trace is almost what you'd call a chuunibyou- someone with an 'eighth grader complex'. From being 'chosen' by an 'old war hero definitely still in his prime', to acting like she's straight out of an anime, to DRESSING UP... Trace took the 'agent' thing and ran with it, which might betray the fact that she's secretly been a huge dork this whole time. Surprise!

Splatoon 1
Hailing from Calamari County, a 14-year-old Trace moves to Inkopolis to finally get a taste of city life... only to find making friends is still hard as all get-out. It's only when she humours Captain Cuttlefish that she gets whisked off into a world of adventure! She befriends Callie and Marie via being on the same agent team, and is actually able to get the great Zapfish back! Who knew?
Splatoon 2
At this point (two years later), Trace is taking her role as an Agent extremely seriously- she's got a fancy coat, a fancy beret... She's reached peak anime tryhard, getting on the new agent's case for being too 'goofy'. On a mission with Cuttlefish (nobody knows if it was just to get crabby cakes or not), she gets totally knocked out in a battle with a rogue Octoling. Having been separated from the captain, Trace now has to make her journey through the Deepsea Metro all alone. Nothing the legendary Agent 3 can't handle!
...The tests were too hard. She just steals one of CQ's CQ-80s and bum-rushes the entire metro and bodyslams the telephone and-
She gets hijacked by Tartar (sucks) but she's okay about it. She thinks it's like the Majin Buu arc. This is also where she meets Agent 8, and may or may not think she is super-strong.
Splatoon 3
Five years after Splatoon 2, Cuttlefish has officially retired, handing the reins over to Trace. Now that she's really grown up, she's matured out of the negative aspects of her tryhard self- AKA getting on other peoples' case if they didn't take things as seriously as she did. Now, she's mellowed out, realized she doesn't have to be anything but herself to be cool... but come on, she's still gonna wear a cape. COME ON!
When Cuttlefish asks her to find a new Agent 3, she does what she knows best- bungles up talking to new people. She just calls Agent 4 and asks if she's near Splatsville. (She is! Yay!)
