Backstory

Katla was born quite an ordinary child, with two loving human parents in a humble Outer Ring Village of the Frostlands, Askvik. She had always had an intense interest in the cultures and countries around the world, and since her parents were travelling merchants, with Askvik being their hometown, they had always had plenty of stories to tell her to satiate her curiosity.

However, her world began to shift once she met one of her father's old friends, who had travelled all the way from the Southern Gardens to visit him. He was a dark elf, and a bit of an energetic babble mouth, and would tell Katla things about his home for hours and hours as she sat listening patiently. Katla's interest to see his home grew and grew, finding some things hard to imagine stuck in her little Frostland village all her life. Eventually, even his worship of Ravana, the Elven Goddess of Fear rubbed off on her. Once she reluctantly waved him goodbye, her interest in the dark elven cities only grew. As the years went by, she looked forward to his annual visits more than anything, thinking of him as her favourite most awesome uncle despite their differences in appearance.

When her parents finally stopped being worrywarts and allowed her to travel with them in their trading journeys, she had already become a devout believer of Ravana, having read all the books she can find on her Goddess, and a loyal supporter of dark elves in general. Over the years, she became a capable little merchant miss, visiting various commercial ports on her way north/south between her homeland and the Southern Gardens. Her parents were pleased to leave their future legacy in her hands. The supplies she brought to the dark elves, whilst on her pilgrimages, had become a regular occurrence, helping out mainly her dark elven uncle's village, Agneri, but also a few other settlements nearby if she had a surplus.

Backstory Lore

• Ravana, The Elven Goddess of Fear:
  • 'The Elven Goddess of Fear, Ravana. A pitiful goddess that is known as the weakest and most useless out of all of her sisters. She was born an abomination, striking disgust into the hearts of her family as soon as she was borne, causing her to be cast outside without a second thought. As she grew, she only became more terrifying. The tears she wept from her loneliness and frustration sank into the ground, bringing frightening new life to be born from the ground, and dying the earth a shade of darkness. However, despite her past, she is one with a merciful heart. She granted the world fear, despite what it had done to her, as a warning, in order to protect the oblivious from the dangers around them. Afterall, without fear, how can one know danger? The people would run headfirst into death without a second thought. Despite being hated for so long by everyone, she still chose to bring a goddess' blessing to the world.'
• Askvik, an Outer Ring Village of the Frostlands:
  • 'Askvik is a simple village, close to the sea's border with a quiet, but friendly atmosphere. Due to its distance from other villages/cities, most of its population is filled with the elderly or those who prefer solitude, as it has few job opportunities and interesting products to buy.'
• Agneri, a Dark Elven Village in the Southern Gardens:
  • 'Agneri isn't exactly a big village, but has a large number of inhabitants, bordering on a town's population. It is protected by the sea's coast and quite far from the destruction and battle between the dark elves and the high elves. Due to its high population, and somewhat lack of space, people can be found almost around every corner. Fur, tusks and other goods from the Frostlands, or even other lands, isn't too uncommon here, thanks to Katla's and her family's regular supply of goods.'
