Natural Invaders
The Aktego who inhabit Rel'yq were originally bred as human companions as all Aktego were. These Aktegos descend from a group of Aktego who survived a freak accident on a ship during which all human occupants perished. The ship hurtled, uncontrolled, through space until it was caught by the gravity of Rel'yq. The ship was destroyed during atmospheric entry.
While the Aktego are technically an invasive species on the planet, they are generally docile unless threatened and thus they grew to have a harmonious relationship with the local fauna. They also grew in size due to abundant flora where they landed as they primarily herbivorous, although they can eat meat if necessary. Some of them remain small due to genetic restraints and there is also a rare mutation that causes them to grow excessively large.
