When the ruling Diamond of the Red Court was destroyed by her followers, Pink Diamond grew increasingly vengeful, resenting Earth and the rebellion for the damage they did to the Diamond's collective family. While Pink Diamond had previously represented those most connected to their passions, their love was slowly corrupted by Pink Diamond's shift in temperament and guidance. More and more gems fixated on the ways in which they had been scorned and harmed by others, seeking revenge for the loss of their beloved Red Diamond as well as poofing any gems who stand in their. Pink Diamond is a hollow shell of what she once was, falling into a deep despair capable of making all those around her experience tremendous grief and guilt. Pink Diamond's abilities make her the most capable of manipulating the emotions of others, returning many gems to status quo, despite their preferences otherwise.
The Red Court is composed entirely of Homeworld Defectors and their associates. While their purpose has remained mostly the same, the subject of their defense has changed. The Red Court are the warriors, protecting gems less capable of defending themselves. They originally helped Homeworld clear planets of other life forms, however, like many other gems before them, they fell in love with the passion and freedom of humanity. Recognizing the damage that had been done by their hands, they have devoted themselves to making right their mistakes of the past. To finally liberate themselves from the strict caste system and Homeworld's idealogies, they actually came together to defeat their original ruling Diamond. Red Court is the only Court to function as a democracy with no Diamond or gem holding a higher status.

Mossy Diamond's Court is focused on preserving the natural ecosystems, sentient beings, native flora and fauna of Earth and other planets. They view "defective" gems as another naturally occuring phenomenon and welcome them with open arms. Some Courts judge them and call them weak pacifists.
Blue Diamond's Court operates by the most traditional of rules and values. They do not allow defective gems, nor the fusion of any non-same type gems. Even same-type fusions are only permitted for the purpose of utility and advanced skill/power. Blue Court also has the most numerous and skilled Zircons, who act as both lawyers and police to uphold the laws. There is a strict gem hierarchy and gems are expected to behave in accordance to their pre-determined role in society.
Hope Diamond is the counterpart to Blue Court, finding strength in radically accepting all gems exactly as they are. The Court welcomes "defective" gems, including off-color, cracked gems and over/undercooked gems. They are not required to fix, compensate or enhance any of their perceived flaws.
