Regency

Base story is a mess but for initial characters 

She and her family are basically "new money" haven been taken in by family after they were about to lose everything. Now she suddenly has to understand higher society, but is generally frowned upon by the populace for her roots, and is not see as an equal. It doesn't particularly bother her, but there are misadventures involved. She meets a wealthy man who eventually falls in love with her, and vice versa, but she refuses to marry him in fear of ruining him.
