Dr. Gneiss' Team is a far-traveling geological survey team that consists of 3 Avatars and one Sec-op Security Member. During the time Hell's Gate was in the hands of the RDA, they would leave for months at a time to more far-reaching areas to survey geological features such as volcanoes and mountain ranges.

During one such trip, they lost contact with Hell's Gate two months before the destruction of hometree, and  didn't come back until the base was being forcefully evacuated by the Na'vi. Despite some links back to Earth, the entire team chose to stay and now keep to themselves at their base on the Hallelujah Mountains, not yet joining any clan or shifting their consciousnesses to their Avatar bodies.
