Pusang Bundok

literal translation of the au name: mountain cat

(because the story takes place in the mountainous/highland areas of the philippines, specifically benguet, only the characters and groups in the folder "other groups" come from different parts of the country or in other countries altogether)

warrior cats au with filipino influences <3

-------

some lore (the naming scheme and medicine plant facts will also apply to pineclan and other mountainous clans)

-unlike the canon warriors universe where the four seasons are truly there, the cats of each clan around the islands have completely different names for them due to living in a tropical climate, for example, the hot dry season is called "heatglow", the rainy season/monsoon is called "waterpour" (although the season itself is called as such, they still refer the action of the season as "rain") and the cold dry season is called "windchill" or otherwise "cloudfreeze" in mountainous/highland clans

-speaking about different seasons, in highland clans, the climate is the same as the typical tropical climate, but cooler, like there is little variation when it comes to the change of seasons despite the cooler temperatures, the higher the elevation the colder it becomes, that is why most highland clan camps have very thick bedding and leaves to protect themselves from the cold when sleeping and such

-since snow doesn't exist here, any cat with the name "snow" in it, will not fit into this universe and such the word is excluded from the naming vocabulary of this au (unless, that cat is a kittypet, loner or rogue) however the word "frost" can still occur on some cats, but only in the clans of very mountainous areas, lowland clans and highland clans with only somewhat high elevations do not have this word in their naming vocabluary.

-some species from the canon warriors universe will not be recognized here (and possibly also other clans) like pears, like i never heard of a pear growing in the philippines, so the word "pear" would not be in any of the clans' vocabulary of names, because they wouldn't even know that it exists. i don't know about robins, i heard there are some in the philippines, but i don't think they're common, this means that the naming scheme of cats here will be a little different compared to the ones in the canon warriors universe. we also have our own species that don't exist in the warriors universe as far as i know, so prepare to hear "muniakit" and  "mynahkit" XD

-the medicinal herbs will be different as well due to the climate and ecosystem being different here compared to places like the usa or europe. this site is useful when it comes to a list of medicinal plants in my country: http://stuartxchange.com/CompleteList

-when the season of waterpour comes, lowland clans use banana leaves to guard groups of cats from the rain, i'm not sure about the highland clans like pineclan yet, though

-fun fact, in the philippines and its surrounding countries, there are unusual cases where cats are born half a tail, a bent tail, or a bobtail (a tail that is only a stump on the back) so chances are, there will be a bunch of clan members featuring such tail mutations (searching examples of cats with an almost non-existent tail on google may lead you to a list of cat breeds, however, here in my country it is definitely a stray/street cat thing, not a purebred thing)

-the prey is more or less the same as the canon warriors setting (mice like field or forest ones, shrews and small birds) but no squirrels (except for some islands) a few even like to hunt eagles and owls, although only for a special ocassion due to how scarce or hard to hunt they are.

some even like to hunt rats, however due to how hard they are to kill, only some of the highly experienced warriors can catch them.

lakeclan and a few other clans out there also hunt frogs. which lives up to the saying of lakeclan being eccentric.

-there's no wolves or something like that, so the animals the cats will usually fear and hide from are snakes, eagles and owls, thankfully due to the low amount of large predators in the philippines most cats do not think of the fear of being eaten that much.

-there may be no true foxes in the philippines, however there's a bat species called flying foxes, which is why pineclan has a warrior named foxflight.

-owning barn/farm cats doesn't seem to be a practice at all in the philippines (as far as google can tell me) however, in my experience i have met someone living in a shanty building (very simplistic housing made out of planks of wood) and i saw them own a lot of stray dogs and cats, so i think it's still possible to have a story of a cat similar to a farm cat in this au, especially that a stray cat or dog crossing someones outdoor property can happen        (update: someone in my country told me that this is a real practice, basically to chase the field mice away. can't believe one person was more helpful than google :/)

-instead of wheat farms in the canon warriors world, our country has rice farms, so get ready to see some cats accidentally go near one

welcome to the rice fields, m'f**ker!

-all characters are puspins, except for a select few characters. while puspin technically refers to a street cat not belonging to any breed, i mentioned this term so you can search if you want what their typical body build looks like in pictures. i can give you a description if you want, these cats usually have a more triangular shaped face, wide ears and a slimmer body than domestic shorthairs outside the philippines or southeast asia as a whole. (think of, the body type that a russian blue has) this doesn't mean that you will not ocassionally find cats with rounder builds and faces here, though.

-any character that is somewhat fluffy tend to have kittypet ancestry, as most cats with fluffy coats can only be seen in captive and selective breeding here

------------

random infodump: such fluffy cats are often called "persians" in our country, while they have a face and body build more reminiscent of a ragdoll or a siberian rather than an actual persian (also applies to himalayans in the philippines), disregarding the fur color, even doll-faced persians still have a face close to their eyes.

some people give this type of cat an unofficial term, "persian bigbone" possibly to refer to their rounder and thicker build than our street cats, any cat that looks like an actual persian may be deemed either an exotic longhair, or an exo-persian, a casual term to describe an exotic shorthair-persian mix.

and yes, mixed-breeding is common here (*cough* permese (siamese-persian mix) *cough*) and cat pedigrees are a not so common thing, although awareness is increasing. (popular breeds such as persians and siamese tend to not have pedigrees for some reason, probably due to how common these claimed breeds are? and the lack of suppliers from other countries, unlike british shorthairs, scottish fold and straight, ragdolls, maine coons, bengals etc. which are those breeds here that tend to have suppliers and pedigrees.)

sorry for the infodump, i just wanted to let you know what cat-breeding is like in the philippines + how street cats look like there

now you know more about the philippines than ever ;))
