Sold to a questionable upper-class show stable in europe
Endured unknown extent of abuse from ages 2-6
Was imported from Europe to North america as a 7yo when he was bought by Moonrise Equestrian Center
Bad ground manners. No respect for the person. Attacks out of fear. Rears, kicks, strikes, and tries to run you over. Sometimes he's amazing and then all of a sudden will just turn around and bolts into you, and then is fine.
Hates the trailer, as he used to be trapped there for hours in his "training" sessions.
Vet and farrier have issues as he causes problems. Great feet with 4 shoes, but acts out severely. Usually needs to be mildly sedated. Continued training required.
LOVES water. Will swim, run, play in water. Loves being bathed/hosed. Loves drinking from the hose and being sprayed in the face. Especially loves water jumps (but will usually attempt to dump you). Loves using the water treadmill, swimming in the exercise pool and the pond.
Can not be kept in a stall. All stalls need a run if he is kept in one. Preferably 12/7 turn out. Poses a problem at shows, and with stall rest. Continued training required.
Very active horse that needs to have challenges. Daily exercise is needed even with turnout. If doing groundwork, preferably short sessions spread out throughout the day. Enjoys hill training.
Very spooky with new objects. Will try attacking, then crash into you and rearing up, followed by a bolt. Proper desensitization required.
Undersaddle Zephyr has a huge yet smooth flowing trot. Smooth, Uphill canter with huge strides. He only has go, takes off early and rushes jumps, doesn't have good brakes (if any). Has a tendency to bolt, but also throws bucking fits. Rearing is fairly rare under saddle but he has flipped over once. Dumps his riders often. Gallops off after landing jumps. Wind and brisk air make him F R E S H. Has a lovely topline and will be great at bareback once he has breaks/manners/respect.
SHOULD NOT be ridden in a harsh bit. The harsher the bit, the more out of control. Bad behavior increases. Training tools such as martingales also should not be used, as he keeps his head down nicely.
Trotting in hand is a disaster. Runs into you, canters, rears, or in most cases, all three plus more. Further training required.
Terrified of whips/spurs due to previous abuse. Needs further training.
Lunges very well (without a whip) is forever forward and can be hard to stop. Knows walk/trot/canter with voice commands and also by raising your leading arm. Turns at any gait by you ducking down, may rear to turn, especially in the faster gates. Changing direction as soon as he doesn't listen keeps his mind occupied and focuses his attention on you. Needs to learn whoa.
Will excel in XCountry with further training. He has not refused once, and if you stay on you'll always be in the ribbons (in Canada 1st is Red, it's weird.) Goes too fast and is a danger to himself and his rider.
Is very good at jumping but occasionally crashes into the jumps when trying to throw his rider. Other than that he won't ever hit a pole, careful with his feet (sometimes)
He's a little too hot to be very good at dressage, but his natural floating gaits and stunning markings always catch the judges eyes. Needs further training.
