debate question

Posted 8 years, 1 month ago by Faunicorn

As a species owner you're entitled on many a thing! Making lots of new lore, rarities; traits and whatever! Free to roam; they are your children!!

But here's my question:

Should a species owner be able to change distinctive points/rarities/anatomy to the point the 'past' species resemble them strangely? Moreover; should a species owner be allowed to force people to adhere to the new changes; particularly when some owners have art/items (plushes, charms, ect) both personal and commissioned made of the old design that won't neccessarily resemble the new?

I'm asking because I've seen this a few times and most of the time the old designs aren't grandfathered in. This is upsetting and jolting as a buyer because it makes it hard to trust the creator in the future. Making a semi-common trait suddenly rare and then telling those that have that trait to bump it down to a lower tier seems genuinely insulting and infuriating to me. I understand there are things down the road that a creator wishes to change and shift around but I don't agree with making a sudden decision that affects owners and then expecting them to be okay with it (I know people who sink HUNDREDS of dollars of commissions worth into their character and I would probably just fucking lose it if I dropped that much money and was expected to change their design for no other reason than 'its not allowed anymore' )

Thoughts and feedback? Its good for those who like the new changes and can draw in more of a crowd! But suddenly changing anatomy and rarity tiers and the like while expecting everyone to see eye to eye with this is absolutely disgraceful imo. Why even invest in a species then?? (rhetorical question, friends)

(definition pulled: Being "grandfathered into" in a legal sense means that a rule does not apply to something that happened before the rule was made.)

My solution: I have revamped wishems 3 times now; however I don't expect any previous owners of my prior designs to follow the new layouts I've made; so I call them Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3. I won;'t be going back to the style of gen 1/2 but I'm not going to force owners to change the design if they don't want to

Question about Closed Species

Posted 8 years, 4 months ago by Faunicorn

I survived the new year everyone. I will live again. I hope everyone got their their rest and fun and no one's in a serious mash. I slept through the hangover but I probably wont drink again for a while. I can't handle all the side effects- wow. Anyhow. I will be revving my art engine and will be trying to output several adopts this week, mostly closed species and some maybe not but I had a few questions that maybe some of you veterans can answer:

1. What are some things that irritate you in closed species?:
For me its when people make stupid things a rarity, things like body types, cosmetic art effects (seriously star pupils should be for everyone damn), bodily injury or limiting colour palettes in a strange way (like someone restricted any pastel designs) Reserve bids are a nuisance as well and I've seen auction holders strongarm their highest bidders into paying even more than what the bid initially won with and I found that disgusting. Price what you're comfortable with letting go- don't force people into emptying their wallet because you made a poor decision or something didn't go as planned. If you've had any bad experiences, I'd love to read about them and adjust my own methods accordingly if I have to.

2. How long should an auction run?
I hate auctions that last 5 days or more because I'm an adult and something could happen in that amountof time and suddenly my car's blown out radiator becomes much more important than your auction where I'm highest bidder in. I'd say typically 24-48 hours but is 3 days excessive or no. Also how do you all feel about private bidding?

3. Do you enjoy myos and how much should a slot cost?
I think $10 is fair without a base and maybe $15-20 instead if a base is provided? Does that sound fair?

4. What is your comfortable price range on buy an on base 'cookie cutter' adopt?
$10? $20? Do the effort put in make a difference? Does the base itself make a difference? I have some simple bases and some more complex bases and the more complex ones I'd like to charge higher on but what would be the price you'd be most comfortable with? I have one base I'd charge $30 simply because the size and the amount of detail and effort i can out in exceeds a base that I have that I plan for $12- ut I'm not a customer

5. Lastly: what are your favourite themes to see?
Star motifs, crosses, asian, so one and so on. Would you also pay to have a theme one of your other character have be replicated in another species? Like I wouldn't mind seeing this child a few different ways http://toyhou.se/191018.-esprit-miaow#648040 or https://i.gyazo.com/702713ac664f496d73dce085686fd90e.png but I don't know how others feel

thank you for reading and I look foreward to your responses!

So yesterday I found out I'll be losing my job. The company has filed for bankruptcy and is pulling out of the U.S. over the next few days. I'm a bit annoyed but its kinda a load off my shoulders seeing how they still wanted to be manager even tho i start school basically full time in two weeks. I kinda needed a vacation anyways LOL so I might use this free time to test the waters with some species I've been incubating and finish a batch of wishem designs that I'm pretty into. Tbh I'm kinda excited but I'll still probably look for a part time job just so i can pay what bills I have. We'll see!

I think its kinda rude

Posted 8 years, 4 months ago by Faunicorn

To offer designs with people you told you were interested in and turn around and offer to someone else

Ie: person XYZ offers a design and says "I also have a trade in the works with ABC for a design you could be interested in."

Abc then comes up to you and offers you the same design that they have in the works with XYZ

Okay first of all; thats rude to tell someone you're interested and make them wait on your answer, only to creep around and pull the rug out from under them becaue you want something else. I realize that you haven't commited to any trade but that's bad manners because you want to be greedy and keep all your options open instead of just turning someone down. The other person also really shouldn't be offering either but I'm more lenient because they feel they have a good enough chance that they can offer. This has happened to me several times and I have no interest in these kinds of trades. It feels dishonest and i dont like it ): you wouldn't like that shit if it were you, I wouldn't like it if it were me. 3 way trades are happily accepted but I would like ALL parties to be aware.

Sometimes I hate

Posted 8 years, 5 months ago by Faunicorn

Buying characters with art because 9/10 times i won't use the art they come with. Nothing against the original owner I just often have a different portrayal in my head or design tweaks I'd like to apply. ): like sija has beautiful art but I won't use it because its not a fair description of the character's personality (plus doesnt reflect his tweaks)

I did once ask if I could buy the oc without extra art because It didnt fit what I had in mind and promptly got my head bit off (': i dont know why thats not offered sometimes.

Is it just me or

Is anyone like me where they can drop $100 on a design but you make a face spending $25 on shampoo, tooth paste ectect

Also Sorry for lack of updates to people I owe art for! I'm working every. Day. This week. Because I had to cover my employees shifts and not to mention I've been so busy setting up school its been so time consuming and I am upset because I have a lot of things I need to get done and not having any days off is not helping.

I don't understand why adopt artists

Posted 8 years, 5 months ago by Faunicorn

Don't make a masterlist or leave their original watermarked adopts up with the original price underneath so people can confirm the valued amounts purchased for. I just had to go send notes to a couple of artists because  i was trying to sell some designs and I couldn't remember the original price and they either deleted the original submission or took the price/bidding chain off like. Really? Make it easy for people to rip off other members holy crap. Its sincerely frustrating and I don't like to contact people unless I have to due to social anxiety :/ it shouldn't be the buyer's responsibility to check- thats victim blaming but you kind of have to lately and thats upsetting. But make it easier for buyers to protect themself, please. ):

Mahou Shoujo Witch + Nue Trade

Posted 8 years, 6 months ago by Faunicorn

My costume I put together for halloween! Mahou shoujo witch! It was a lot of hard work but it looks amazing and everyone at work loved it and so many people took my picture and took pictures with me! I was so exhausted later tho ): posting here because 1 or 2 people wanted to see it

On another note- I will be deciding what I do with Madonna today! Thank you everyone for their patience and offers, I will try to draw her once again today and see if how I feel. If you are interested in the board or offering, it can be found here!

http://toyhou.se/~forums/thread/7560.-nue-for-trade-/0

If i decided to draw fanart for someone of their character, on a scale of 1-10, 10 being a gaping asshole-

How dickish would it be if i asked them not to include my art ever for the character if they trade the character away/sell it. I don't want my nice gesture to be seen as extra art currency for a character and i will raise an unholy fuss if i see it used as such. If you dont want the character, you don't get to keep the art. End of story.

Be honest, I can take it I just see it happen often in the swapping community. I don't ever tack on gift art when i offer trades, i keep that private and i won't pass it on. It was for me- not you. You don't get to have it.
