Prologue: “Again.” The dial clicked as it slid up a notch. “Now.” The assistant grinned as she hit a button. The subject shrieked as sixty volts of electricity fried his skin. ‘His periosteum must be melting on his bones right now,’ the assistant thought. ‘How exciting!’ “Johanna?” The assistant looked to him in anticipation, never once removing her hand from the button. “I think our friend has had enough for now.” Johanna frowned with displeasure; she hadn’t wished to end so soon. “But we just got started, Doctor.” “Please, Johanna.” The doctor smiled lovingly, as if talking to a child, more specifically, a toddler. “You will have plenty more subjects to play with over the course of your study…and please, call me Milgram.
