Nothing that happened is your fault, Lilan. You carried so many burdens, you were bound to slip. Nothing in the world is strong enough to carry the responsibilities you had for as long as you did. It was my fault to not notice I could’ve relieve that burden and save the both of us. We could’ve escaped the fire instead of dying with it. I could’ve picked you up and have you run with me. But everything is said and done. Please know, though— It was my choice to run back and it was still my choice to stay with you. I didn’t want to live a life not knowing if I’ll ever see you again. I wanted to be with you for the rest of my life.

I arrived to fulfill my duty, but upon arrival you welcomed me with open arms and offered company and conversation that soon turned to friendship. Your words brought reminders much needed, food for thought, a perspective that you tried to have me not forget about. I may be much longer lived, perhaps long enough to see my lord's goal realized, but those who don't are not to be forgotten. The lives that we look to safeguard and aid also matter. More so than them, yours has come to matter to me as family would. I wished to see you live your life and still be a part of it, but our paths could not be the same. It may have been for something out of my control that made it so I could not stay true to my promise of keeping you safe, but may you find that safety wherever you go. I loved you as a daughter, and for that, I must bid you farewell. The only part of my heart that does not belong to my lord goes with you.
You showed me that I had no need for it, not during this war, and likely not during any that are yet to come. You made your choices, and closed the door shut. I tried what I could, and I have come to accept there is only so much I can control. Opening my heart be damned.
I... Hope you rest well. I may not be able to do anything for your actual remains... But I will keep your flowers close together. In another time, I wish we could be better friends.
Your selfish intentions and desires are a match made in hell with the Veilords. You had such a bright future for yourself, if only you have waited. Naivety is damnation and your hastiness only expedites the suffering you will endure. Not that I wish it upon you. You couldn't help yourself. I know you couldn't help yourself to give yourself the easy way of reaching hope. Nobody can blame you for wanting a better future. We all wanted a better future. But I will blame you for the costs that may come. The friendships you sacrificed for the sake of your pleasure in life. You're aligned with the Veilords. As fast as the solution comes, the feeling of relief will last just as long. So appreciate what you can and I hope in a different lifetime, we'll be better friends and your reincarnation improves on your past mistakes because I cannot find myself to forgive you in this lifetime... during times like this.
Though our paths diverge, and though you know me a liar; Please believe this one last truth. You were my friend and I will hold our friendship close. But I have made my bed to lay in, and lay in it I must.
I hope in time you will truly be free of the veilords. Free to tend your garden and watch it grow. Free to befriend those wayward hearts, as you did with mine so many months ago.
