Snake in the Grass
In which plots both political and murderous take place, and a WindClan cat becomes collateral that will hit back.
Other rogues/loners/kittypets that travel but aren't a part of Sidewinder's group
The Clan that lives to the south of the lake, FloodClan cats make home in semi-marshy areas near ShadowClan, preferring to stick around the lakes and sources of fish, which is their primary prey source. The trees in the area are only sparsely scattered, some being pine and some being birch, although most just being larger shrubs. They are known for their plump physique and relaxed attitudes. They are awake for the better part of the morning and late night so they can catch more fish, sleeping for most of midday as most cats and Clan cats tend towards. They make their camp in a small islet surrounded by a shallow stream and reeds, and tend to make their nests out of reeds as well, so that they float if it floods. These cats are expert divers, and able to hold their breaths for an abnormal amount of time. FloodClan cats by blood all have webbed paws. They are the only suppliers of herbs found at the bottom of rivers and lakes, and also absolutely adore shiny trinkets. They'd quite like it if the Clans converted to a more economic system, rather than trade and barter.
To the northwest, BogClan cats live in marshier areas than the other Clans, and their fur is often spiked up with mud that gets stuck. The pine trees that fill the marshes leave a strong scent in the air, and this is what most BogClan cats can be identified by. They will hunt whatever shows up, and are the only Clan aside from FloodClan who will eat frogs willingly. BogClan cats are known to be dirty fighters and hateful to outsiders, with their cats typically being built more nimble and lithe, preferring to sneak up on their enemies, nearly silent on the soft peat that covers their territory. They make their camp in a sparse ring of dry land surrounded by bushes and trees. BogClan cats are known dirty fighters, somewhat literally; they use the snake lilies that grow in their territory to poison their claws before an upcoming battle. Even if combat is unexpected, fighting a BogClan cat is a surefire way to wind up with an infected wound, as their claws are so nasty from the place they live and lack of grooming, that infections are nearly guaranteed from wounds inflicted by them.
Sidewinder holds up a group of rogues and former kittypets, taking their home in an enormous field that connects to an abandoned golfcourse. Most of the cats living here don't interact with each other frequently, if at all, and are left to fend for themselves, consequently resulting in a higher population of these wild cats being rough and tumble rogues or sneaky and clever little cats as they learn to hunt for themselves and either steal from other cats by snatching prey away from them when their backs are turned, or by beating the other cats up until they give in and surrender their food. These cats won't stick around to fight to the death, and usually a quick slap to the face will get one of them to give in, because, like most ordinary wild cats, they know that they're on their own and won't be able to hunt for themselves if they get too badly hurt.
The cats here who like to travel further than others on occasion will sometimes know enough about the Clans to the northeast to be able to mock them and how un-catlike the Clan cats really are. They have no respect for the four Clans around the lake, even if they don't challenge the cats living there. At least, not until now.
Everyone there knows about Sidewinder since she's the one who keeps calling the other cats to meet with her if they want more opportunities to feed themselves better.
ThicketClan, just to the west of BogClan, live in the dense oak woodlands noted for the undergrowth that other Clans struggle through. ThicketClan cats are almost always quite good climbers, usually being compared to squirrels in that aspect. This Clan is extremely militaristic, and the most well-defended one in the area. ThicketClan warriors are built stocky, with broad chests and heavy paws, good for defending and for being frontline fighters. The other Clans do their best to stay on ThicketClan's good side, both to avoid an invasion more well-organized than the others could manage, and because ThicketClan will send 'captains' from their warriors to another Clan, to help organize their warriors against whatever troubles they may be having. They make their camp in a hollow that is an old mine that was partially emptied out by twolegs a long time ago.
To the further west, sharing a border with ThicketClan and FloodClan, the SquallClan cats make their homes on a large moorland with the occasional weak and thin tree adding just a touch of diversity to the rolling hills. Although SquallClan cats are known for hunting rabbits and hares, it's only warriors that hunt hares, due to the size of them compared to a half-grown apprentice. Instead, SquallClan are usually hunting rodents or smaller birds. SquallClan cats notably have larger ears than the other cats so they can hear further on the moor and so they can shed more heat since they have little to no shade from trees, and they use their tails as rudders for sharp turns at the high speeds they move at. Their hind legs are usually much thicker than an average cat, since they rely on speed in order to catch their prey on the wide open plains. Their camp is a divot between a few hills, and many cats think that the SquallClan cats are very strange indeed since these moorland cats prefer to sleep out in the open rather than in enclosed dens, except for the queens and kits, which have their own patch of reinforced bushes so that the cold chills of winter don't hit them as hard.
