I have no idea if this is the right place to talk about this, so please let me know if I need to remove it.
But, I REALLY need some help.
The other day on Deviantart I found a very adorable adoptable that I had just missed ABing for a cheap amount. I was sad, the artist looked somewhat new to the adoptable creation scene, so I thought I could support them by commenting that I was sad I missed it, and hoped they would make more like it in the future for us to try to buy. A day later, they messaged me and said the previous bidder had fallen out, and asked if I would like to buy them instead since I had been interested. I jumped at the chance, but I guess looking back I should have taken more care.
They are from Russia, so the time difference was making it hard- they messaged me at 1am and got a bit upset that I had not paid within the hour. I had given them my Paypal already in case they wanted to invoice me, but when I woke up and saw they were upset I hadn't paid yet- I clicked the link they sent me to pay and paid. THEN I see they had invoiced me, so I canceled that since I had paid already. Get a message demanding to know why their money was being held. I politely talk to them about how it looks like they are new to paypal, and paypal always holds your first couple of transactions to make sure you are a legit seller. That they hold for 21 days, or they could contact support and I would help them prove that they had given me what I had paid for ONCE THEY GAVE ME THE DESIGN. Because they hadn't given it to me yet. But I was trying to be nice, and help. They stated they could not contact support. I ask why, they say they can't find the link. What? So now I am feeling scammed, I tell them that I won't be waiting 21 days for something I already paid for. After the 21 days, I can't fight it if they DO scam me. We argue, I tell them I am going to get a refund, they then demand to send me my file. I give them my e-mail, and get an adoptable with the watermark STILL THERE. And they aren't even the artist. In the title of the e-mail they state the WM is still there because that is how they got it when they paid for it over a year ago. Before I can say anything they demand to know if I am happy now. I ask who the original artist is, and they give me the WRONG name. I ask if they are on Deviantart, they say No, only on a Russian site. I ask for proof of purchase or anything of the sort, and they say since it was a year ago there is no proof.
After searching, I finally find the real artist on Deviantart. With the exact file I was sent. Sadly, I do not know how active this artist is- I sent them a message, but their last post was over a year ago. After more searching on Toyhouse for other designs this artist has created, I finally found that they have a VK account, but I do not, so I cannot contact them there sadly.
I am willing to prove all of this with screencaps, but I was really hoping to hear what you all think of this. Am I just being a jerk and paranoid? This is super shady right?
I will say, it was not a lot of money. Only $10. I just assumed that it was a newer adoptable designer that was trying to get out there, a lot of people sell great designs for this price range. And I can miss out on $10, but if this is an art thief situation then people should know not to buy from this person. Not to mention I already told them that if they were going to make people wait 21 days to get what they paid for they should say so up front before someone pays. At the least.
I have not put names or links yet because I am not sure if that is allowed? I will check.
