Ledokol's Bulletins

Wish me a luck for 2017's finale

Posted 6 years, 4 months ago by Ledokol

          What 'finale' you might ask? It's been somewhat my own tradition to do the year xxxx art summary to review what I have drawn in an entire year. And for 2017, it looks like this up til now:

2017notdoneyet_by_colorlessocean-dbxh09a

          And the main problem is, it's already the last ten days of 2017 and for December, I've not yet drawn anything. The main trouble is from the four tips to hospital in less than three weeks time because of ear infection. And for someone with Asperger's and inevitably also suffer from sensory overload, the equipment that doctor used was the worst because its noise made my anxiety skyrocketed (seriously, the sensory overload was too much, I almost blacked out in the first two times I got this kind of treatment). Therefore, this month my stress level has been unbelievable and it obviously affects my motivation to draw. After the last appointment yesterday, I won't have to return to the hospital again until January 4th.

          I'm trying to catch up and at least finish something so I can add into the last space for the yearly art template. It'd be seriously disappointing if I have filled all other months only to miss out the very last month.

          It's Kulakov who urgently needs a new avatar because I only ever drawn him once back in July 2016.   Also it'll be interesting to draw him without the cap. As for the figure next to him with only bare anatomy outline sketch, that's another Fregat android who also needs a new avatar badly. You may have already seen the name Vinogradov before in Yurka and Boryushka's profiles. I could have uploaded him earlier but I just...want to give him a decent new art for the avatar first.

          Here you can see how sloppy I work with sketches. My brain is easily overloaded and gets confused if I used just one color to sketch everything; later I won't be able to tell which line is the clothing or anatomy outline or something else. Hence I have to use several colors to do the sketching separately for anatomy outline, clothing, hair and additional parts. Another thing is, while I do sketch before inking, I never sketch facial features but draw them right out during the inking process. This explains why Kulakov has his facial features drawn before anything else because I need them to use as a measurement of where the hairline should locate.

           I pray that I won't lose the motivation again before finishing this drawing. Vinogradov's profile could be uploaded once this piece is complete.

Painting Tutorial on my dA

          I got requests from friends on FB in August to teach them how to paint fabric and...pretty much everything else. Because of art commissions and other stuffs, I only competed the tutorial in Thai language early this month and...just finished writing the English version today.

Click here for the link to tutorial on dA

          Because I've pretty much never taught anything using English language before, my apologies in advance if some explanation or instruction is confusing. Also please beware that this entry is rather image-heavy with 70+ screenshots. If some explanation isn't clear enough, you can ask me for clarification; I realize the explanation might not be detailed enough in some part because I just couldn't think of a way to phrase it efficiently while I was writing the content.

OCs' Short Fictions Directory

Posted 6 years, 5 months ago by Ledokol

          I read from the Suggestion Forum that in future there might be literature submitting option add to TH. Only, it's uncertain yet just when it will be implemented. In meantime, Here will serve as directory for short fictions that I have taken advantage of the Monthly Writing Prompt thread in Forum Game to write some quick story about my OCs. (I'm rather indecisive I rely on the prompts to decide which moments from the plot in my head I should write out as a fiction xD;; )

  Artificial Existence OCs

     ►►          - Prompt - Precious(I) :: Pacific Fleet
Varyag and Vinogradov talked about the shifting in their android personnel roster, the timeline was prior Vladimir Monomakh's arrival in September 2016

     ►►          - Prompt - Precious(II) :: Arkhangelsk and Arkhangelsk
TK-17 Arkhangelsk is entering the disposal process and he won't stay around longer than a year. Before he'll be gone, he kind of 'confronts' Zinaida over some issue...

     ►►          - Prompt - Big News :: Too many things happened in the project 667BDRM

The main cast are those I have yet to transfer from Charahub. Here are their profiles if the site is working - Tula / Kareliya / Podmoskovye
          Part I - K-114 Tula from the project 667BDRM(Delfin/Delta-IV) arrived back in the Northern Fleet's base after three years of modernization. An unwelcome news was waiting for him there...
          Part II - Continues from above, Tula finally hosted his famous tea party but then...

     ►►          - Prompt - 'Can you hear it?' :: (undecided whether to be canon plot or AU)

There's a series of strange, mysterious sound randomly echoing through the Sevmash Shipyard. When the human personnel unsuccessfully attempted to uncover it, the androids offer to help...for this night it's the team of Ustinov and Arkhangelsk, with Severstal being recruited for additional assistance. (only the intro part to when they start the night watch, the source of the sound is a spoiler about future OC)

     ►►          - Prompt - 'Can you hear it?':: Shaposhnikov and Panteleyev's 'hidden treasure trove'

Something that should portray the chaotic relationship within the four project 1155 Fregat androids of the Pacific Fleet perfectly. Shaposhnikov is in the middle of confrontation with his nemesis, 'the Illegitimate Child' Admiral Tributs, yet somehow the stash of their little brother, Panteleyev, steals the show completely?

  City OCs

     ►►          - Prompt - Sea :: Rybinsk Sea

Valentin laments the existence of the largest water body in the oblast he holds the administrative authority over, for it taken away one of his close family members.

  21st Century Slavic Deities

     ►►          - Prompt - Big News :: Jarilo's reviving ritual

Just that time of the year again, when Morena takes heavy responsibility of being the one who took away the god of spring and fertility from mankind.

AE Universe FAQs

Posted 6 years, 6 months ago by Ledokol

          I hope I'll cover as many topics as possible, if there is something still uncleared feel free to ask in the comment and I'll add the missing information.

  CONCERNING THE SETTING CONCEPTS::

  - BOUNDARY OF THE SETTING

          Generally this setting of this universe is corresponding the real world history from 1980 to the end of 2005. That means mostly I refer the the actual historical events as main structure of the plot from said period. Therefore, you'll see the mention about the collapse of the USSR, the shooting down of Korea Airline in 1983, the independence of Ukraine and several other states which emerged after the breaking up of the Soviet Union up until the sinking of the Russian submarine K-141 Kursk in 2000.

          After 2006, only selective events will be incorporate into the plot. This is because there are several conflicts that are still bitter to the nations involved (namely, the Russo-Georgian War in 2008 and the recently Russia-Ukraine conflict). While I know that some ships and armaments after which some of my OCs are based on participated in those conflicts, I don't think it's really the fault the armaments - after all if it wasn't for humans that want to resort to violence, none of these weapons can start a war on their own.

          With this, in this universe the events below never occurred in the story:

  • --- Russo-Georgian War in 2008
  • --- Russia-Ukraine conflict concerning Crimea (in this universe, Crimea still belongs to Ukraine)
  • --- Syrian War and ISIS-related conflicts
  • --- And honestly I prefer to exclude 9/11 as well, even though it doesn't have much to do with Russia.

  - ABOUT SENSITIVE SUBJECTS FROM REAL WORLD

          This plot is mainly evolved around the historical tidbits from the time the ships are serving in the military service. Politics, racism, nationalism, religious belief will not be a focus in this universe. At most some events which in someway related to politics will only be mentioned in passing without going into details whether it was right or wrong.

  - PROGRESSION OF THE PLOT

          The lifetime of each OC is based on their real life counterpart. For example, Dmitriy Donskoy is probably existing for another five years at most before he will enter the decommissioning and dismantling process. As soon as the actual TK-208 Dmitriy Donskoy is confirmed to be sent for recycling, the OC in this universe will be omitted for the continuing plot. He may make an appearance again in a new drawing/fiction/RP log but only in the timeline from the past when he was still active.

   - CLOSE SETTING PLOT

          The plot is main involved on progression of events in Russia and not mentioning about other countries. OCs may give a hint about relationship with other nations , like how Shaposhnikov is wary toward Japan and China because of the initial relationship with these two countries when he first deployed to Vladivostok, meanwhile his two younger brothers are much more friendly toward them. Basically, the setting in this plot Russia is in a friendly/neutral relationship with most of the world like how it was prior 2006.

           And there is a possibility that I will make ocs of warships belong to other nations beside Russia. These OCs will be minor characters though, for example US Navy ships based at the Yokosuka naval base in Japan may occasionally pop a visit to the Pacific Fleet in Vladivostok (in RL these visits had happened quite a few times until...recently). They're unlikely to have their own plot but only appear in a plot that one way or other related to the Russian counterpart.

  CONCERNING THE CHARACTERS CONCEPTS::

  - CHARACTERS' DEFINITION

          They are androids, results of the experiments to give humanoid characteristic to the armaments. As such, these OCs practically can live forever as long as they get proper maintenance and provided with their choice of fuel (oil and enriched Uranium fuel which comes in a form of tablet similar to human's medicine). Originally they do not possess any emotions but able to react with appropriated emotions by pulling the info from database about human's behavior that had been programmed into them since the early stage of their creation.

          In comparison to ordinary humans the similarities and differences are::

  SIMILARITIES::

- Able to consume human's food. (Not their choice of energy source as it gives a much lower energy output but their creators thought by making them consume the usual oil fuel/nuclear fuel only will mean to make them alienated and easier to differentiate from ordinary humans, which defeats the purpose of giving them human characteristic to be easier to conceal themselves among ordinary humans)

- Able to react with appropriated emotions. (However, how much they comprehend of emotions is depends on each individual. Some may not experience many chances to use data on more emotions than just anger, hatred, disgust (ie. Dmitriy Donskoy) while some seems to comprehend delicate emotions much better (ie. K-150 Tomsk who suffered from the loss of his brother K-141 Kursk). Many prefers to suppress emotions and act with cool-headed rational way and some understands particular emotion to the point they can use it for their advantages or concealing their true personality)

- They are constructed to blend in with ordinary humans with ease. (Majority of their appearances are typical for Russian citizen with natural hair and eye colors and normal height range for human (from 150 to 190 centimeters). Only Varyag, formerly Chervona Ukraina, has an 'unnatural' hair color due to the overzealous engineers trying take the name to the extreme...)

  DIFFERENCES::

- Sleep is not necessary required for them. (Being armaments, sometimes they need to operate at 24 hours for extended period. Requiring sleep as the part of maintenance would be much inconvenient. Therefore, they can operate without sleep for several days to a few months. It's only when they are not on a task and staying at their base that they can 'shut down' their system to cool down and thus seemingly pretend to 'sleep')

- Even with emotions database in their inorganic 'brain', it lacks the emotions relating to romance and sexuality. (Thus at most the only 'love' they can experience is to love their siblings. Their creators deem that emotions related to romance would cause more troubles than good. And there is no need for armaments androids to experience sexual desires)

- Although their outer appearance resemble men, they all lack 'male genital', not having even artificial one. (Their crotch does look like normal human males but actually what is 'bulging' there is similar to the bulb in front the ship (like this) that help the vessel with hydrodynamic while traveling through water)

- Their strengths and toughness are several times to humans. (They can easily kill ordinary human with the same swat human use for ridding mosquitoes or flies, though most of the time they prefer not to use physical confrontation with ordinary humans)

- They do age but at a slower speed than humans. (They're usually 'born' with the appearance of a human male at the age of 20. Depends on the amount of repairs and overhauling their appearance can be much younger than their actually age)

  - 'ABSTRACT HUMANS' CONCEPTS' THAT THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND

          While they do understand the concept of protecting the interest of their the state they're serving, they don't understand the conflicts that arise from politics, nationalism or different religious beliefs. To them these concepts are all 'the fruit of humans' imaginations' that don't exist in materialistic way. They don't understand why Ukrainians and Russians are different because to them they're the same; none possesses a special ability that the other doesn't have and both are equally 'weak humans' who can perish so easily in comparison to them.

          To them, the Cold War wasn't anything more complicated than 'the US wants to destroy our state' but they never comprehended the reason why the USSR was deemed as being a threat in the US' view.

  - CONCERNING THEIR 'BIRTH' AND 'DEATH

          Their existence begins not long after the starting point of their creation as the programming to add database to their 'brain' progresses. At this stage their humanoid form is still not completed and usually it's comparable to the life of human during their baby stage. Which means they can experience things yet mostly don't recall what they experience and spend majority of the time 'slumbering'. Only some rare cases like K-535 Yuriy Dolgorukiy, whose construction dragged on for almost two decades due to economic problem, that experiences 'slipping out of his slumbering' and actually remembered that he temporary 'woke up' before his completion. Only after 'launching' that they would be 'fully awakened' and started remembering every details in their life.

          If provided with sufficient maintenance and fuel, they can exist as long as a century (there is already one OC who reached the age of one hundred years old - the salvage vessel Kommuna). Their 'death' will occur when they enter dismantling process. They will not immediately lose their consciousness right when the dismantling process starts but eventually at some point the team of engineers which handle this process will 'shut down' their system one last time and from there they're gone forever.

  CONCERNING THE OCS USAGE ON TOYHOU.SE::

  - WHAT IS THE 'ARTIFICIAL EXISTENCE' WORLD THESE OCS BELONG TO?

          That world is set 'private' as I know this plot isn't everybody's cup of tea, especially when it's partially based from real life history. However, I plan to add collection of fictions and roleplay logs to keep everything in one place. You may notice the my AE OCs profiles mostly contain sporadic information instead of full story and the reason is I like to pick up a particular moment in the OCs' life to write into a detailed fiction.

  - AND IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET AUTHORIZED TO SEE WHAT'S INSIDE?

          Yes, I think I'll do that someday in future when I've added significant amount of fictions and RP logs. Just let me know that you're interested.

  - WHAT ABOUT SUBMITTING CHARACTERS INTO THE WORLD?

          As horrible as it may sounds, I'd prefer to allow just my OCs to RP here. That way it'll be easier for me to control the boundary of the plot as to not stepping into the sensitive subjects listed above. Besides, so far I have not yet found a RP partner who is truly compatible with the theme I RP because it requires substantial knowledge of Russian geography, history and culture.
