hi everyone. I really don't want to make this bulletin but I feel like I have to. I want to say upfront that if you buy a design from me, you are more than welcome to resell the design! I have no problem with this, all I ask is that you let the person who's buying it know who the original designer/artist is.
however, what I do have a problem with is if you try to resell my designs for more than you bought it for at a 300% markup when you haven't commissioned or drawn anything of the design. This is not fair to me as the artist, and isn't fair to who you're selling to. It is, in my opinion, scamming people. If you draw your own art for a design or commission art for it, I genuinely do not care if you raise the price of the design! What I care about is profiting off of work you have not done. The age of the adopt does not increase the pricing. The fact that it's been resold before also does not increase the pricing. Just because times are hard right now does not give you the right to profit off of other peoples labor.
I'm very frustrated because I know this fandom has a lot of respect for artists, I would know, people have been very kind to me! But that makes it all the more aggravating when someone does this. It's also frustrating because I know this isn't uncommon. People (not just in furry, but in general) view artists as machines and not as people, and think stealing our work is ok and even try to profit off it when it's convenient (not even to fucking mention the whole AI art thing, lol). I know my experience here isn't unique, but honestly I wouldn't be making this journal if it wasn't for the blatant disrespect. If an artist tells you that you are breaking their ToS, please don't throw a temper tantrum about it and block the artist when they point this out to you.

I genuinely don't know what to say. I've been trying to get over my burnout wrt furry/furry art for years and my growing distaste for the fandom in general but every time I make any headway some stupid asshole comes around and changes my mind again. It truly flabbergasts me that a fandom surrounding artists and their work can be this way.
I know there's nothing I can really do here besides bring awareness to it but seriously, if you are looking to buy designs and adopts from people who didn't make them, please, please make sure you find out what it was originally priced at. If the person selling won't tell you, don't buy it.
