Thauril

THAURIL

OVERVIEW

A small rainforest surrounded by a deep lake and intertwining rivers. The rainforest is stuffed to the brim with hundreds of different plant species, but only a few are vibrant flowers, making the realm a very green place. In the middle of the rainforest is where the amphithere kingdom sits; a series of tall, circular huts sitting on the sides of trees that connect to each other with long bridges made of wooden planks and vines. The palace where the King and Queen live is the largest of the huts and is decorated with gold and jade accents that look like the various jungle animals. The big cats also have a smaller town on the very side of the realm next to the surrounding lake, their houses built into the ground as elaborate burrows and caves.

The citizens in Thauril are very bubbly and adventurous, almost everyone loves to leave the realm to explore other realms – mostly their unique wildernesses. All creatures and humans in Thauril share an equal hatred and fear towards dark creatures/beings, like demons, werewolves, vampires, and deities/Gods that are oriented towards questionable morals and values. The only exception to this is the God Abysiimal who is worshipped for rebirth. You can find several little golden statues of his true snake-self wrapped around trees and rocky temples.

RANKING

ROYAL FAMILY

The royal families in Thauril are extremely important to its citizens, but do not have much more than regular people besides law building and tending to city-wide issues. There are two different royal families; the amphithere’s and the big cat’s.

HUNTERS

A selected group of big cats, humans, and amphitheres that are trained to kill demons and anomalies that enter the realm. Their work is focused on keeping the balance in the rainforest, but recently a few hunters have started making their way into other realms and have taken their hunting there.

CITIZENS

These people and creatures usually live very comfortable lives in the towns because everything is highly community oriented. Newcomers are welcomed profusely…so long as they’re not a demon or anything similar.

Werifesteria; to wander longingly through the forest in search of mystery.

FACTIONS/ORGANIZATIONS

THE GOLDEN FANGS

A group of hunters that regularly patrol the rainforest and cities in search of demons and other dark creatures trying to hide among the citizens. They also fix anomalies and keep the rainforest stable by regulating its animals and plants, also lending a hand to citizens with building or running errands. You can tell someone is in The Golden Fangs guild because they will have golden plates over their canines and often the golden bite mark symbol on their clothing or accessories. When in other realms, The Golden Fangs will also hunt there, despite the protests of others.

THE ORIENT ABYSS

A group that looks after a temple dedicated to Abysiimal. The temple is hidden away in Nuel beneath the trees and is filled with cozy potted plants and the strong scent of apples. Despite Abysiimal being considered a dark God, the Orient Abyss focuses on the rebirth part, but acknowledges the wrath and lust parts too on special occasions by bringing light to healthy anger management and celebrating relationships. There is a statue in the back of the temple that represents Abysiimal’s truest form, the snake with a skeletal pattern, but no other forms exist in the temple. However, there is a strange painting that depicts a young man interacting with Abysiimal’s dragon-like form, but no one can really understand or say much about it.

LAWS

  • Demons or similar creatures and beings are prohibited from entering this realm and its cities, and are immediately reported and hunted down by hunters or any nearby authorities. Lesser demons are usually killed, but more powerful creatures are captured and detained instead.
  • Almost no crime exists in Thauril because the vast majority of its citizens are not humans and live almost completely wild lives, so assigned guards are extremely lax until something serious pops up. Criminals are typically locked up with the luckier lesser demons, but crimes that involve damaging the rainforest and its citizens are handled far more seriously.
  • Cutting down or hurting the trees and plants outside of certain zones is prohibited. Hunting the animals is also prohibited, the fish in the lake and rivers being the only exception as they are overly abundant and breed easily.

ABOUT

Thauril is filled with hundreds of different plants that are predominantly huge with all kinds of different leaf shapes. Despite the variety in plant life, there are only a handful of different flower species that can be found everywhere in the jungle. There are also only a few different animal species, but a lot of fish. Rain is extremely common in the realm and comes in vast amounts that often floods the whole rainforest, allowing the fish to swim throughout the trees and beneath the tree cities before returning back to the lake when the floods clear out. Storms are also fairly common in Thauril and always happen at night, but these storms are not overly violent and leave the trees and plants unharmed.

NOTABLE LOCATIONS

NUELA

Nuela is one of the two cities in Thauril. All of the buildings are held high up in the air on sturdy trees by unbreakable vines and a special sap that’s native to the realm. Some homes are carved into the largest trees, like large squirrel homes. Only the entrance of Nuela is directly on the ground; an arch of vines and carved wood that welcomes you up towards the trees with a wide, plank bridge. Because the buildings wrap around and next to the trees, they’re typically quite small, but are still large enough to fit swirling amphitheres that live in them. The royal family’s tree hut is the largest building in the whole city, and it sits in the very middle. Everywhere you walk, climb, or fly, you can see amphitheres doing the same. At night, the city is at its quietest since it’s too risky to go out in the dark so almost all citizens are tucked away in their homes until morning arrives again.

TACUADO

Tacuado sits next to and partially in the surrounding lake, Eldada. Unlike in Nuela, the buildings are made out of toughly packed mud and carefully woven planks and vines so that they can withstand the strong winds from storms and being in or on the lake. There are roads and paths made out of laid down planks that have been embedded into the muddy floor, for traction and protection against jungle bugs and parasites that live in the wet banks. The surface of the lake has floating platforms scattered across it where most of the city’s commerce happens, but also fishing and a place where the big cats like to lounge under the sun during the midday. Often, you can find resting caiman or water snakes on these platforms too, and they scare the smaller cats away until someone larger chases them back into the water. Some of the city also twists its way underground in large tunnels that have been lined with plants and more planks for stability and decoration.

ELDADA LAKE

Eldada Lake wraps around the realm and ends with a large stone barrier so that fish and other water creatures cannot accidentally slip into the void beyond. The lake is deep in most areas and is filled with all kinds of grasses and aquatic plants that keep the large fish hidden from searching caiman or snakes, and the big cats that fish. The shallower areas are clear and warm to wade in, but you almost always get leeches after being in the water. Snakes also like to secretly swim up to anyone sitting in the water and check them out, so sudden screams from the waters edge are quite common near Tacuado and the other popular edges that people visit. The only prominent danger is being swept out by strong currents and drowning or being hunted by a caiman, but cats and amphitheres frequently patrol the lake to keep everyone safe and will help out anyone they spot.

WAKARATH GROVE

One of the smallest sections of the rainforest that is the most popular to roam and adventure in. It’s tall trees are filled with all kinds of birds that are always singing and calling out to each other, making this also the loudest part of the rainforest. There are a few pitstop huts in the trees for travelers that get injured or tired along their journey, and medics that are available 24-7.

ELDERKURU WILDERNESS

The largest part of the rainforest behind Nuela, Elderkuru Wilderness is a massive mountain range with towering stone towers and dipping trenches filled with trees and vines. Monkeys are common at the very tops of the trees and tapirs roam in the very bottom of the wilderness. A large river runs through the very middle of the mountains and valley, which is also where the medics huts sit because most of the people or creatures that travel through here end up running out of water or falling into the gorge below.

CADABO GARDENS

A tiny section of the rainforest where trees are used for their resources and all kinds of fruits and vegetables are grown. Medicinal plants are also grown here in a protected patch and are harvested by the medics from both cities and all the parts of the rainforest. Visiting this section of the rainforest is prohibited unless you are working here because it’s a protected area.

WRATH GROTTO

The underground, temple-like area where captured demons and other creatures are held/killed. The entrance is heavily guarded by guards from both of the cities and citizens are prohibited from going near this building for their safety. Leading down from the stone stairs is a large network of corridors and cells that are protected with ancient magic to stop its prisoners from escaping. One large room has a carved statue of Abysiimal in the middle where captives are killed and their souls are sent, supposedly, to him, although they actually end up in Mulgdune instead.
