A gemsona is a Steven Universe fan character based on the in-universe species of Gems, which are anthropomorphized gemstones with varying magical capabilities. Creating gem personas or gemsonas, as they came to be called slowley picked up popularity as fans began to correlate their birthstone to the Crystal Gems and Homeworld Gems.
