Chapter One - Origins

It all began when Dog, who was alone for several years, came across the Claiming Valley. He wanted to start a herd, finally - but on his way down, he managed to sprain his ankle. A Litia stallion, Buck, witnessed this and joined Dog, offering to help with the injury. Soon after this, the two were caught in a freak hail storm, forcing them to find shelter. They found an empty human shelter and hid inside, only to hear a mare's calls for help. Dog went out to find her and brought the pregnant Fyres mare back into the shelter to weather out the storm. She decided to join them, stating her name was Goose. Later, their shelter is discovered by a human, who is chased off as the trio run away. The trio travel for a while before reaching a tar pit with two individuals in need of help. Dog went to help a bear who was being cornered by wild hell pigs, while Buck and Goose went to assist an Irish Elk who was caught in the tar.

Both experiences ended in the rescued individual running off, but Dog was chased away by hellpigs. He fell into a gorge and managed to escape them. Meanwhile, Buck and Goose witnessed a human sacrifice into a hot water geyser. They left that alone and found Dog at a freshwater lake. It was a joyous reunion, after Dog sent off some lurking eagles. While Buck and Dog were playing, Goose noticed a pregnant Litia mare in the distance. She approached them, thanking them for chasing the eagles away. Buck chatted with her and she decided to join them, making the trio into a quartet, with two little ones on the way. She indicated towards a beehive, which was blocked by a dead deer. Dog decided to check it out, so while he went to see the bee hive, the three others stopped to look at the deer, who turned out to be the very elk they'd tried to save previously.

Goose felt ill from being near the elk so the two mares and Buck left to get some fresh air on a hill. While they were gone, a smilodon leaped out of the shadows, being chased by a buckskin stallion. Dog and this stranger fought the cat and chased it off. After a brief tense moment, the stallion introduced himself as Jackrabbit and requested to join the tribe. Dog decided to leave this up to the herd, so he led Jackrabbit up the hill to introduce them. Buck seemed unimpressed, while the mares discussed quietly and came to the decision to allow him to stay. Soon after this, Buck noticed that Dog was bleeding. There was a tender moment between the two as Buck cleaned the wound.

The party moved on. Sensing a storm brewing, they headed towards the highlands, seeking out shelter. They were caught in the rain, but managed to find a tree to shelter under while the Litia stallions went to search for something more substantial. They returned with news of a cave nearby, which the herd quickly moved to. Some time after entering the cave, they became aware of a cave lion in their midst.

A week or so later, the monstrous bird Harpy - an Apex Predator, found their little hideaway. Dog sent Buck and the mares away to find safety and stood ready to fight the bird. He managed to get a decent kick in before returning to his herd unharmed.
