Kōmodora
Kōmori = Bat
Doragon = Dragon
BASIC INFO
Kōmodoras are believed to be descendants of wyvern dragons. A winged two-legged dragon with a barbed tail. Physically wyverns are known to be smaller, lighter and generally weaker than their cousins the dragons and so over time with the overpopulation of humans they have taken on this new image to blend into these modern times. This misleading look protects their dragon blood from those that might still seek it.
Diet
They harvest fruits, bird eggs, insects, Gastropods (Slugs and snails), and flowers. Sometimes people will find them thieving if they get a taste of human food as they'll never go as far as beg for it.
Birth
Kōmodora are born in the arms of their mother, wrapped in the warmth of her wings.The egg is fertilized inside the female and is ready for laying roughly one-quarter of the way through the incubation period (Average 13 weeks). It takes then about a month for the egg to hatch.
The pup whose parents abandoned it before it hatches or could not care for it take longer to grow and the lack of a teacher makes survival rough, but through trial and error, the pup learns to manage on their own. Others might try and seek out their parents, sometimes they will mistake those who share might share their patterns as family. This can usually be the death of the Kōmodora depending on who they associate their patterns with but those that find success in a family along other species can learn to mirror their intelligence and instincts meaning if they're raised by cats they will act like one.
Behaviour
Kōmodora are known to be aggressive when protecting the things they own such as their territory and treasure they collect. At a young age, they are quite playful chasing one another and playing together, but try to act tough when in a threatening situation.
Lifespan
- Egg: 1 - 4 months
- Infant: 1 - 14
- Juvenile 15 - 39
- Young Adult 40 - 59
- Adult: 60 - 200
Physical Traits
Height
Adult male Kōmodoras are a little taller than the average human. Adult female and young Kōmodoras have the height similar to humans. Children tend to be hunched over, not standing to their full height. As they get older they start to straighten their posture to look more civil and intimidating.
Antennas
Kōmodora can smell and feel, sometimes even hear with their antennas. The antennae of a male are extremely sensitive to the female pheromones such that a male can find a female. It can also tell them the length of the day, the season of the year, and the right time for mating.
Ears
Their ears resemble that of a bat. They can contract their middle ear muscle when emitting a call, so they can avoid deafening themselves.They can change the structure of their ears, going from one extreme configuration to another in just a tenth of a second in order to change their hearing.
Wings
Kōmodoras wings come with different shapes and markings depending on where and how they catch food. People usually compare their wings to a cape (More so towards adults) with how they wrap their wings around themselves whenever the walk or run. Komo children their wings are compared more to like blankets. Like a child that keeps a blanket close young komos will do this with their wings, especially those who are mostly shy. It's a sign of trust when one they open their wings. When threatened their wings will retract as they move on all fours to look intimidating and ready themselves for an attack.
Plumage/Fluff
Their plumage seems to originate from their neck with fluff that grows out in the front. The development of longer fuller feathers seems to indicate advance age, gender, lineage, and even the creatures state of health.
Tail
Like a bird, the Kōmodora use their tail to create lift and control drag during slower flights and help steer during turns. During courtship, their tail feathers whirl and whistle as they engage in dizzying dances. Their tail should be cautioned as the feathers are quite tough and can rip through things. They keep their tails lifted as they stand or walk as they do not allow their tail drag along the ground. It also shows confidence and pride. Those who tails that drag are considered weak
Breath
Over the decades they still retain their flames. Sometimes they can cause forest fires if they aren't able to control the strength of their flame and this is said for the younger Kōmodoras.
Extras
- Kōmodora like collecting treasure
