a highly magical, parallell dimension suffered a leak, these two kids were affected, and now these ex-humans have to deal with their new powers, and also deal with being picked up and away from their homes since they literally are about to disappear from existence in their non-magical home dimension. 

oh boy

also, the longer a family lineage stays in magifold, the less human they'll look. magical mutations are abundant every generation. 

so yes, everyone is descended from humans here. no matter how weird and/or monstrous they may look.
