Back in the days of castles and knights, a young king sets out on a voyage to a remote island to take over the small colony his father left when he died there. He establishes his kingdom there, naming it after his late daughter, Pennilyn.

Little does he realize, the island has already been inhabited by creatures long before him. These creatures call themselves the Origo, and they don't take too kindly to trespassers killing off their kind to thrive. Strife between the two peoples is imminent.

THE VOYAGE

A young newly-crowned king set sail from the mainland to a distant island, with the intent to continue growing the colony his late father had left there. He brought his most trusted tutor, Hansen, both his young daughters, Patricia and Pennilyn, as well as his brother and his family and children, and the rest of his court. The only person he ended up leaving behind was his wife, who refused to come to the island with him.

THE DEATH

Little did they know, the king's father neglected to inform them of the creatures already inhabiting the island. Many of these creatures were already at war with the old king, and one extremist group, the Crown-Collective, were more than displeased that a new wave of humans was returning to their land.

The Crown-Collective decided to take matters into their own hands, and sent a water nymph to attempt to kill one of the inhabitants on board, in an attempt to scare the voyagers and get them to turn back. In a sudden turn of events, the king's daughter, Pennilyn, was pulled overboard by the creature and drowned. Unfortunately, the water nymph was also killed in the process, and the king was not deterred.

In his sorrow, the king decided to name his colony after his late daughter. The rest of the traveling group was scarred from the death, but none of them turned back from their journey.

THE SETTLEMENT

Despite the Crown-Collective's attempts, and to many other Origo's chagrin, the humans made land and settled in the reestablished colony of Pennilyn. However, it wasn't without its fair share of issues. Strange things unsettled the small amount of contentment the king had left. There were creatures in the trees- Patricia had begun to sneak out occasionally to who knows where. And his trusted friend and tutor, Hansen, gained an uncanny fascination with the Origo- or "magical creatures", as they had dubbed them.

TENSION

With the colony of Pennilyn being surrounded on all sides by foreign forest and waters, the king became increasingly anxious for the safety of his people, especially as more complaints started to come in about strange noises in the night and missing peoples. He confided in Hansen, who declared that he could have a solution, if he were allowed but a squadron of soldiers to take 'samples' from magical creatures. The king was hesitant to anger the creatures around them any further, but agreed anyway. This led to Hansen building an inventory of items made thanks to magical creatures, and in the end, a product he nicknamed the 'Crow Serum'.

Under Hansen's supervision, the Crow Serum was administered to several elite soldiers in the king's guard, and underwent a transformation. These soldiers gained the ability to shapeshift between a humanoid form and that of a crow, hence the name. They also gained the ability to nullify magical properties through their specialized weapons. The only side effect was an altered state of mind in which the soldier would become wholly consumed in whatever goal they were commanded to do by Hansen. So long as they were ordered to protect the kingdom, this worked to their advantage.

With this new army, the humans quickly made themselves known. Magical creatures close to the walls of the kingdom were quickly slain, and now the humans grew tenacious. They started plowing their way into the forest for resources, expanding their territory. Of course, all magical creatures were enraged by this, and several kingdoms and groups declared war on the humans.

Little do they all realize the war will culminate in something much, much bigger than either side.

MAGIC

Magic is measured in two sub-categories in terms of an Origo's, or magical creature's, ability to perform spells and enchantments. Latent magic is very subtle and works over time, typically without visible effect- latent magic can come in the form of oaths, wishes, and sealed promises, among other things. Active magic is very visible, usually doesn't last long, and is very quick and potent. Active magic can range from bright lights to powerful creation spells that make entire mountains of material.

SPELL

A spell refers to a singular usage of magic. They can range in strength, type, and variety depending on the magic used and the caster using it.

DOG

An incredibly coarse and offensive slur using to describe a half-breed magical creature, typically a half-dragon creature.
