Gailen Virren

Gailen Virren is a half elf loner found in the woods by another loner human named Riven. He was taken in and trained by the human, trained in the knowledge of archery, although he isn't very good at it, but also in swordfight. Due to his physical conditions, he is also mute, and therefore communicates primarily by sign language. He doesn't mind having to write things out however for people who can't understand.

In his current young adult years, he works with Riven to fight against the more rampant, damage-causing magical creatures of the island, attempting to find a way to create a peace in the tension between the human and magical creature kingdoms.

Bubbly • Cheerful • Naive

Gailen is full of joy, love and unbounding cheer for nearly everyone he meets! He loves to play and dance and giggle, and his naive happiness often keeps him out of harm's way, although it can also lead into some sticky situations. It's not easy to disappoint this little fellow, as he usually tends to bounce right back! He's easily distractable and he gets a kick out of the littlest things. Around this little elf, it's hard not to have a good time.

Insecure • Sensitive • Weak

On the other hand, Gailen also isn't the strongest one in the bunch. He tries his best, but physically and mentally, he can be easily fought. And while he tends to be more hardily cheerful, he isn't immune to rough banter and mean pranks. Jokes in poor taste can tend to rub the wrong way, even if he'll never speak up about it aloud. He tends to put his friend's happiness above his own.

Drawing: Gailen enjoys doing things with his hands, and he's especially fond of sketching! He always carries a pencil and his sketchbook in his satchel wherever he goes, and he's hardly seen without it.

Exploring: When he isn't drawing or fighting off creatures with Riven, Gailen is busy exploring the forest. He's always eager to climb a new tree, splash in a new stream, or chase around the nearest butterfly. Of course he gets a little carried away sometimes, but it's all in good fun.

Speedy: It's hard to keep the little half-elf still, but it leads to a good advantage in combat. He's able to dodge and get out of the way, but mainly his speed is used to run messages and flee from enemies, hiding in the brush has better benefits.

Magic Ability: Even though it's not comparable to some other masters of magic, Gailen still retains the ability to carve magical runes into objects to turn them into spells he can use however he wishes.

Clumsiness: Gailen isn't the most agile of creatures, for however fast he is. It's quite easy to send him toppling to the ground, he only needs to trip over his own feet. It's mainly the reason why he isn't allowed the wield a bow.

Naivety: Unfortunately, as kind and willing to love as Gailen is, it can also lead to his downfall. He's willing to trust anyone with a very low bar that's set, and that sometimes leads to people taking advantage of him.

Crafting Runes: Gailen, while he doesn't have outright magic he can use on a whim, due to him being a half-breed, he can channel his inner magic into stones or solid objects by carving runes on them, which can then be crushed and used to create spells. Usually he has a satchel full of stones with these runes engraved on them, ready-made.

Cheering Others Up: When the going gets tough, there's really no other person anyone on his team would like to turn to than Gailen himself. He's wonderful at easing worried souls and keeping people's chins up with his sweet gestures and excited demeanor.

To get a peace treaty between the humans and magical creatures: More than anything, Gailen wishes the constant fighting would stop. It's what he and Riven have been working toward all these years, trying to form some semblance of peace between the two species. He just regrets that killing has to be a part of it.

To speak again: While he doesn't make a big fuss of it, sometimes, occasionally, Gailen wishes he could talk again. He wishes that Riven could hear his voice, that he wouldn't have to sign all the time or write down his words. He knows it's selfish, but... surely it's a harmless wish?

The truth being revealed: Gailen ignores everything that happened before the point Riven found him. One could say he's almost forgotten. But who he is as a creature always lingers, and he's deeply terrified one day someone outside of his family will realize he isn't just an elf.

His father: He doesn't want to remember.

• He can and will eat three lollipops at the same time, and he loves to crunch hard candy
• Physical touch is incredibly influencing on his emotions, he practically requires regular hugs for good emotional stability
• While he can't talk, he can make noises of all kinds, and squeaks a lot
