Cas is pretty much Jack's guardian angel. He acts as a fatherly figure, and it's even confirmed by Jack that he has taken up that role. He's very protective of Jack from other angels, demons, and especially Lucifer.
Jack believes Cas to be his 'real father' even though Lucifer is his birth father. He feels a strong paternal bond with his guardian angel and wants to please him by doing good. This, unfortunately, doesn't always play out well and sometimes his 'dad' has to get him out of a sticky situation. (Or should I say 'DADS' ;3)
