The Underneath

There’s the world you know, and then there’s the Underneath, a secret world where just about every myth or tale is a stark reality. Caelan has known about the Underneath for about as long as he can remember, after a chance discovery when he was five years old. Now an apprentice at the wizard Mordenan’s library, Caelan spends most of his time in the Underneath, away from his disapproving father, stacking shelves and practicing magic with his best friend, a water spirit named Nepti, in his spare time. But when Mordenan stumbles across Kier, the only other human to enter the Underneath in decades, Nepti is certain that Kier’s presence will bring them nothing but trouble. When a dark force attacks Mordenan’s library, they are forced to believe Nepti’s warning. Kier has to disappear, and Caelan’s the only one volunteering to make that happen. If Caelan can find out what it is that makes Kier a target, then maybe they can figure out what to do next. Unfortunately, Kier has no memory of his life on the surface.
