Charlie doesn't know Lucian all that well yet but he seems alright. It was surprising (and a bit unbelievable) for Charlie to find out that he's a werewolf though, but after becoming a creature of the night herself it's really comforting to have someone who more-or-less understands what she's going through first-hand.
Charlie is quite fun and Avery seems to like her so Lucian trusts his friend's judgement. Her being a rather newly-turned vampire also reminds him of his first years as a werewolf and how confusing it felt to be thrown into this weird supernatural existence so suddenly, so he sympathizes with her and hopes his tips on how to cope with all this can help her somewhat.
Lucian is Avery's best friend, ever since childhood. A trip to the woods in search of the supernatural that Avery initiated when they were 14 ended up in a gruesome incident that doomed Lucian to life as a werewolf. Avery feels huge guilt about it, and even though Lucian refuses to discuss the incident and insists he's fine, she has a sneaking suspicion that he hides his true feelings about it. Despite it all, Lucian becoming a werewolf opened the doors for them both to learn more about the supernatural, which she was always fascinated by. Avery also hopes that one day she can succeed in helping Lucian find a cure for lycanthropy, and maybe that can finally ease her guilt. Despite the past, Avery and Lucian are still really close.
